Square for Retail Pricing

The Square for Retail monthly subscription cost is determined by the plan you choose and the number of active locations in Square:

  • Square for Retail Free is available at no cost and works with single-location accounts.

  • Square for Retail Plus is available at $109 per month, per location. Learn more about the differences between Square for Retail Free and Square for Retail Plus.

  • Square for Retail Premium is available with custom pricing if you process more than $250k a year. Contact our Sales Team to learn more.

Get started

If you’ve already created a Square account, upgrading to Square for Retail is simple. Once you subscribe, all of your existing account information will be available with Square for Retail Free, Plus or Premium – including your items, customers, bank account information and inventory.

Locations & Devices

For each location accessing our advanced inventory system with Square for Retail Plus, there is a $109 monthly subscription fee — charged on the first of the month. Here are some examples of the billing structure with Square for Retail Plus.

You can manage your device settings and subscriptions from your online Square Dashboard.

Fees

  • When you tap, insert or swipe your customer’s card through Square for Retail Plus for iOS, your processing fee will be 1.6% per transaction.

  • When using Square for Retail Free to tap, insert or swipe your customer’s card, your processing fee will be 1.9% per transaction.

  • For all other types of transactions (such as card-not-present, Virtual Terminal or invoices), you’ll pay Square’s standard processing fee.

*The rate of 1.6% (GST inclusive) for contactless and chip + PIN payments on Square Reader and Square Stand is only applicable to payments processed when signed in to a Square for Retail Plus account on the Retail POS app. If you process payments on Square Point of Sale or Square for Retail POS Free version, you will pay the standard processing fee of 1.9% (GST inclusive) for any tap or insert on Square Reader and Square Stand payments.

Also, if your subscription lapses or you unsubscribe from Square for Retail, you can still utilise Square for Retail Free to process payments, but your processing fee will return back to the standard 1.9% per transaction.

Afterpay and Square for Retail

Overview

With Square for Retail and Afterpay, customers can pay for transactions in four installments over six weeks.

  • If you’re eligible, you can accept Afterpay payments between $1 to $2,000 in store via your Square for Retail POS app or via your Square Online website.
  • Afterpay is available with Square for Retail Free, Plus and Premium plans.

Afterpay Pricing

Square sellers using Afterpay get paid the full amount at the time of purchase, minus a processing fee on the total order. Enabling Afterpay with Square is free — there are no monthly fees or startup costs. There are no processing fees charged on the remaining installments or if your customer makes a late payment.

Afterpay online and in-person payments are 6% + 30 cents per sale.

Note: Afterpay rates are fixed and do not vary by subscription type, hardware, or custom pricing.

Enable or Disable Afterpay

You can go to Payment Methods via your online Square Dashboard to enable or disable Afterpay at any time.

Note: The setting for In-person payments with Afterpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Afterpay payments in-person. This includes other online platforms such as Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Restaurants, Square Invoices and Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to enable/disable Afterpay only for Square for Retail at this time.
