Feature log
All the things we’ve updated
With simplified pricing, you unlock more features when you upgrade plans. For example, Square Premium includes everything from Square Free and Square Plus.
Accept Bitcoin tap-to-pay on Square Register
Customers can tap their phone or device on the Square Register (2nd gen) customer display to pay with Bitcoin at checkout.
Allergy and dietary preferences by seat
Staff can add allergens, dietary preferences, and custom notes to each seat on an order. These details show up on tickets and the kitchen display so every dish is prepared correctly.
Apply a portion of daily sales toward your Square Credit Card balance automatically
Sellers with a Square Credit Card set a hold rate to apply a portion of daily sales toward their credit card balance before the due date. Hold rate options include minimum payment, statement balance, or a custom target amount.
Attach receipts and notes to Square Debit Card transactions
Receipt images and notes can be added to Square Debit Card transactions in Square Dashboard. When enabled in Notifications settings, an SMS prompt goes out after each purchase — team members can reply with a receipt photo that automatically matches to the transaction. All transactions, notes, and receipt images can be exported for accounting reconciliation.
Bitcoin payments on the Square Register customer display
Customers can now choose Bitcoin as a payment method directly from the Square Register display at checkout. Only available on Square Register.
Drag to move or merge checks on the floor plan
On the Square for Restaurants floor plan (iOS and Android tablets), team members can press and hold an occupied table and drag it onto another table to move the check. Dragging onto another occupied table prompts a merge confirmation. A passcode or permission is required when moving another team member's check.
Earn more as your Square Savings balance grows — up to 3.50% APY
Square Savings accounts earn 1.00% APY on total savings balances. Accounts with a total savings balance of $10,000 or more qualify for a 3.50% APY.* Both rates apply to the total savings balance, inclusive of all folders and accrued unpaid interest.
Hide sold-out modifier options from checkout
A display setting hides sold-out (86'd) modifier options from checkout screens so only in-stock choices appear. Those with large modifier lists — like dozens of ice cream flavors — see only available items instead of scrolling through unavailable ones.
Route item categories to the right printer — new ones follow automatically
Printer profiles can be set to automatically print or skip tickets for entire item categories. New categories added in the future follow the same rules without manual updates.
Set fulfillment rules per item — or inherit them from your location
Items automatically use their location's fulfillment methods by default. Individual items can override these settings when different fulfillment options are needed. Ordering profiles also support custom prep times, cutoff times, and pre-ordering.
Add items by category when creating a cycle count
When setting up a cycle count, you can select a category to automatically add all items within it. This lets you populate your cycle count without selecting items one by one.
Advanced rules for manual discounts
Manual discounts support advanced rules including category-based targeting, buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offers, and conditional logic. These rule types, previously limited to automatic discounts, can be configured when creating or editing any manual discount.
Appeal a compliance-related account deactivation
Sellers with accounts deactivated for compliance reasons can submit an appeal directly from the Square Support Portal. The self-serve appeal flow lets you provide additional information for Square to review your case without needing to contact support.
Custom text colors for modifiers on KDS
You can assign custom text colors to modifiers so they stand out on your Kitchen Display System. Colors are configured per modifier from the Modifiers page in the Items section of Square Dashboard.
Daily auto-reset for ticket numbers
Ticket numbers automatically reset to #1 before each business day. The reset fires 15 minutes before your configured opening hours, or at 4 AM if business hours aren't set. The existing max-value reset (at 100 or 1,000) still applies, so tickets reset on whichever trigger comes first: time of day or max reached.
Dark mode available across all Square Point of Sale apps
Dark mode is available across all Square Point of Sale apps on iOS, not just Food & Beverage. The updated color scheme matches market design standards for improved readability in low-light environments such as bars, theatres, and spas.
Dashboard prompts to designate Authorized Representatives
A modal prompt appears in Square Dashboard for sellers who have team members but haven't designated Authorized Representatives. The modal supports multi-select, so you can assign multiple team members as Authorized Representatives in a single step. Authorized Representatives can contact Square Support on behalf of the business.
Dedicated settings for Kiosk mode
Kiosk mode includes a dedicated settings experience where you can manage device groups, assign menus, configure branding, and control individual kiosk devices. All kiosk configuration lives in one place rather than requiring navigation across multiple settings screens.
Delivery radius settings for courier-powered delivery
Sellers using courier-powered delivery through Online Ordering Profiles can set a custom delivery radius for orders fulfilled by couriers such as DoorDash or Uber Direct. The seller-defined radius takes priority over the courier's default serviceable area. This setting is configured in the delivery settings within channel controls.
Drive-Thru for Square for Restaurants
Drive-Thru supports the full drive-thru journey from arrival through handoff. It includes automatic order numbering, a dedicated Drive-Thru fulfillment method, device-level fulfillment settings for front counter and window devices, and integration with Order Confirmation Systems (OCS) from The Howard Company for digital menus and real-time order updates. Drive-Thru is available on the Restaurants Premium tier.
Magic link fallback when captcha verification fails
If captcha verification fails during login, you can verify your identity through a magic link sent to your email address. This provides an alternative way to access your account without being blocked by false-positive captcha results.
Revamped online ordering management page
The revamped online ordering page consolidates QR code ordering, brand controls (Cashtag, logo, color, About section), menus, pickup and delivery settings, taxes, service charges, and store policies into a single management screen. A persistent mobile preview displays brand changes before you publish.
Scale integration on item details screen across all POS modes
The item details screen in Square Point of Sale supports integrated scale workflows for weighing items at checkout. Scale connectivity is available across all Square POS modes: Standard, Retail, Quick Service, Full Service, Bar, Bookings, and Services. Weight-based items can be measured and priced directly from the item details view.
Advanced rules for manual discounts
Manual discounts support advanced rules including category targeting, BOGO conditions, and conditional logic. These rule types, previously limited to automatic discounts, can be configured when creating or editing any manual discount.
Automatic discounts on web and app-based ordering
Automatic discounts display and apply across menu, item, and cart views in web and app-based ordering. Sellers configure discount rules (percentage off, dollar off, BOGO, or time-windowed promotions) once, and eligible discounts apply at checkout without manual intervention.
