Feature log
All the things we’ve updated
With simplified pricing, you unlock more features when you upgrade plans. For example, Square Premium includes everything from Square Free and Square Plus.
Bitcoin payment acceptance auto-enabled for new sellers
Starting March 16, bitcoin is automatically enabled as a payment method for new Square sellers. Payments settle in USD by default. Bitcoin payment setup, conversion options, and a marketing kit are now included in the Business Hub onboarding flow, and the Bitcoin section of Square Dashboard highlights recommended next steps. This feature is not available to sellers based in New York.
Faster order syncing across devices
Orders now sync between devices significantly faster, reducing the time it takes for new and updated orders to appear across your setup. The improvement is most noticeable in multi-device environments or locations using pickup workflows. This applies to all device platforms.
Full inventory counts on Square Terminal and Android devices
You can now perform full physical inventory counts directly on Square Terminal, Consumer Android, and X2 devices. Scan items, reconcile quantities, and finalize counts without needing a separate device. This feature is available in open beta starting with version 7.4 for Square for Retail Plus sellers, accessible from the inventory applet.
Item availability and inventory status in Item Library
Your Item Library on Square Dashboard now displays availability status pills so you can see at a glance which items are available, sold out, or hidden. Clicking a pill opens a popover that lets you update item availability and inventory directly from the same page.
Mark items as pre-order only on Square Online and Profiles
You can now mark items as pre-order only from the item editor in Square Dashboard. Customers can place orders days or weeks in advance with custom fulfillment windows, which is useful for items that need lead time like holiday meal kits or custom cakes. If a customer's cart contains pre-order items with non-overlapping fulfillment windows or mixed availability for pickup and delivery, they'll see a notification at checkout.
Menu editing enforces team member location permissions
Menu editing actions now enforce team member location permissions. When a team member has access to specific locations, they can only edit menus and run bulk actions for those locations. This applies to actions like assigning modifier sets, updating price overrides, and creating items within menus.
Redeem credit card rewards to Square Savings
If you have a Square Credit Card, you can now redeem your cash back rewards directly into your Square Savings account. Deposited rewards begin earning APY immediately.
Tip before payment is coming to the US
Customers choose a tip amount before they pay, so you capture tips you'd otherwise miss when customers walk away too quickly. This will soon become the default checkout flow for all US sellers who collect tips on a screen. If you accept tips on paper receipts only, nothing changes.
View price and margin in the POS inventory applet
Price and profit margin columns now appear in the inventory receive flow and the stock overview items page within the inventory applet on Square Point of Sale. Both columns are view-only. This feature is available with Square Plus.
Assign modifier sets to specific sales channels from Dashboard
You can now control which sales channels display each modifier set from Square Dashboard. When editing a modifier set, select the channels where it should appear, such as POS, Square Online, or third-party delivery platforms. This lets you show different modifier options depending on the ordering channel.

Automatic card surcharging now applies to bar tab payments
Automatic Card Surcharging (ACS) now works with pre-authorized card payments, including bar tabs. When a customer's credit card is pre-authorized to open a tab, the surcharge is calculated and applied when the final payment is captured at tab close. Previously, ACS did not apply surcharges to pre-authorized payment flows.
Offline payments enabled by default for all sellers
Offline payments are now turned on by default, allowing your Square Point of Sale to accept card payments during network or Square outages. You can adjust offline payment settings or disable the feature from your POS device settings. Offline transactions are processed once connectivity is restored, and declined transactions remain the seller’s responsibility.

Passkey sign-in enabled by default on web
Passkeys are now enabled by default for signing in to your Square account on the web. When you sign in from a supported device, you can authenticate using biometrics like Touch ID or Face ID instead of entering a password and two-factor code. Passkey enrollment is offered automatically during sign-in.

Time-based menus on Square Point of Sale for F&B
Square Point of Sale now supports time-based menus for Food & Beverage sellers. When you assign time schedules to menus (breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour), POS automatically displays the correct menu for the current time period. Menus outside their scheduled hours show "Not available until [time]" and require a manager passcode override to access.
Consistent pricing UI across regions
The pricing configuration interface now displays consistently across all supported regions, including the US and Australia. Previously, the UI varied depending on location, which could cause confusion when managing pricing settings.
Edit team member on closed orders
You can now change the assigned team member on a closed order. This allows you to correct team member attribution after an order is completed, ensuring accurate tip and commission records.

Price-embedded barcode scanning in RST POS modes
Square Point of Sale now supports price-embedded barcodes (UPC-A and EAN formats) when using RST modes. Scanning a barcode printed by a deli or label-printing scale automatically adds the item with its encoded weight and price to the checkout, with no manual entry required.
Unified item detail view across POS modes
The item detail screen now uses a consistent layout across Standard, Booking, and Services modes on Square Point of Sale. The updated view applies to all platforms (iOS, Android, and Square Register).
Offline payment enhancements
Set up the new and improved offline payments on your device to keep your business running during service disruptions.
Details
Disruptions can happen, but they shouldn’t stop you from making sales. Offline payments will now trigger more reliably — whether it’s a full internet outage or just a dropped connection to Square.
Daily sales summary email
Get a complete picture of your daily performance with our new sales summary email. Enhanced metrics, trend comparisons, and actionable insights help you optimize operations for the next day.
Deferred sales tracking
An enhanced Sales Summary that tracks all your sales (including delayed payments), lets you examine individual transactions in detail, and provides comprehensive insights into your gross sales, net revenue, returns, discounts, and more.
Automatic ticket numbering for open orders
Open orders now receive automatic ticket numbers across all surfaces, including Square Point of Sale and Kitchen Display System. Ticket numbers are assigned at order creation, making it easier to track and call out orders in drive-thru and counter service workflows.
Duplicate menus from the menu editor
You can now duplicate an existing menu to create a copy with the same items, categories, and configuration. Select any menu and choose the duplicate option to get started.
Item-level fulfillment preferences apply to Online Ordering Profiles
Fulfillment preferences set per item in Square Dashboard or Square Online are now respected across your ordering profiles. Items configured for specific fulfillment methods (pickup, delivery, or dine-in) will only appear to customers when the matching fulfillment type is selected.
Preview mode for Square Kiosk
You can now preview your Square Kiosk setup on any iPad without connecting to a Square Stand. Preview mode lets you view menu layout, item display, and kiosk configuration without requiring on-site hardware. This is available to account owners and support staff for troubleshooting.
