How to Get Mother’s Day Gift Cards for Your Business—And Sell a Lot of Them

People really like to shower their moms with gifts (as they should). Mother’s Day is typically one of the most lucrative holidays for businesses — Americans spend tens of billions of dollars on it every year. And a great way to get in on this action is with Mother’s Day gift cards for your business.

Once you get Mother’s Day gift cards for your business, get to selling them. Here’s how to make sure you sell as many Mother’s Day gift cards as possible this year.

Show them off.

When someone comes in asking what to get mom, your gift cards should be the answer. Toward that end, display your new gift cards attractively and prominently on your countertop so people can’t miss them.

Get the word out.

Shout the fact that your business has Mother’s day gift cards from the hills. Send an announcement to your customers using Square’s Customer Engagement tool. Then take to social media to show off your cards. The more creative and unique the cards, the more attention (and likes) they’ll grab. For inspiration, check out some of our favorites from Square sellers.

Sell an experience.

Think about the experiences you offer. If you do facials, sell Mother’s Day gift cards for them. If you teach piano lessons, offer gift cards for different packs of classes. And even if you’re a coffee shop, you could offer a gift card that says something like “a month’s worth of coffee.” Touting a specific experience is always more personal than just showing a dollar amount.

Get down with signage.

Especially as Mother’s Day nears (and soon graduation and Father’s Day), you’ll want to keep your gift cards top of mind. Consider putting a chalkboard announcement outside your store, or adding a sign at the register to let people know you have gift cards on hand.

Offer discounts.

People love a good deal. So entice them to buy your gift cards with a reward. Something like “buy a gift card for mom, get a coffee for yourself.”
