Sellers use the built-in camera on Android devices to scan barcodes for adding items to the cart or creating and editing catalog items. The feature activates by pressing the volume key. It can be enabled under **More** > **Settings** > **Hardware** > **Camera Barcode Scanner**.

Sellers assign custom background colors to individual modifiers, making them easier to distinguish on the Square Point of Sale screen. Colors are set from Square Dashboard under **Items & Services** > **Items** > **Modifiers** by selecting a modifier set and choosing **Customize** next to any modifier. Both Kitchen Display System and Point of Sale colors can be set from the same screen.

The new-ticket alert on Kitchen Display System (KDS) can be set to any notification sound available on the device. A sound picker with preview and a device volume slider appear in the display's Timers & alerts settings, so sellers choose a sound and adjust loudness without leaving the app.

When a scale or scanner-scale cable is connected but Square Point of Sale can't fully recognize the device, an error message appears in Hardware Hub. The alert includes troubleshooting steps so sellers can resolve connectivity issues.

Multiple guests in the same group add items to a single consolidated kitchen ticket. The kitchen receives one merged ticket per group instead of separate tickets for each guest. Each guest settles their own portion independently at payment time.

A Keypad tab appears to the left of the menu in the Menu applet for sellers using real-time check view. Sellers enter a custom dollar amount, add an optional note, and add it directly to the open check without creating a catalog item first.

A per-mode setting controls whether the dine-in fulfillment row appears in the checkout cart. Sellers using Full Service, Quick Service, Bar, or Drive-Thru modes find the option under **More** > **Settings** > **Checkout** > **Cart**. Quick Service and Drive-Thru modes have the setting enabled by default.

Sellers set preset tip percentage buttons that appear when customers pay an invoice on the web. Customers select a preset amount or enter a custom tip. The setting is available under invoices in the Square Point of Sale or Square Dashboard.

Sellers using real-time check view select an item quantity before adding it to a check. For configurable items, the selected quantity carries through modifier selection and applies when the item is added. The quantity bar is off by default but turns on automatically for sellers who previously used the calculator in real-time check view.

The Sales Report on Square Point of Sale shows both itemized returns and by-amount refunds in the Sales Summary overview, with consistent terminology on iOS and Android. Period-over-period comparisons on Android measure matching timeframes, and the date-range selector works when starting from a preset.

Sellers attach add-on services to any bookable appointment — each with its own price and duration. Buyers select add-on services when booking an appointment online.

Sellers switch between measurement units while performing a full or cycle inventory count. For example, a count can be recorded in individual units, cases, or other configured units without leaving the count screen.

Square Appointments supports a dark mode display option. Sellers switch between light and dark themes based on their preference.

Sellers can exclude specific items from discount promotions, preventing those products from being discounted at checkout. Exclusions are set per item and apply across all channels where the item is active.

Sellers receive low-stock alert emails 90 minutes after each location's closing time, rather than at one fixed time for the whole account. For sellers with several locations, each alert arrives at the end of that location's day instead of mid-shift. No new setting or action required.

An opt-in setting on the expo Kitchen Display System (KDS) moves tickets to the front of the queue once all prep stations mark them complete. This helps expo staff prioritize orders that are ready for final assembly or handoff while other tickets still need prep work.

Sellers can now connect an external bank account to use as a funding source for bill payments. Previously, bills could only be funded by a debit card, credit card, or Square Checking account — so sellers who keep operating funds in an outside bank account had to leave Square to pay those vendors. This removes the need for a separate banking app to pay vendors from a business bank account, and keeps Square a one-stop shop for business banking.

Sellers schedule bulk price changes to catalog items from Dashboard. Prices update automatically at the scheduled date and time.

Sellers can exempt or reduce sales tax on online orders based on whether the order is for pickup, delivery, or dine-in. These conditions previously applied only to in-person orders.

A device setting separates each item's All Day count into “fired” and “held” totals. When enabled, a flame icon shows the fired count and a hold icon shows the held count, covering held courses on live tickets and fully-held upcoming tickets.

Eligible sellers in the US can accept SNAP EBT as a payment method directly through Square,* including in carts that mix EBT-eligible and non-eligible items. Square automatically splits the tender and adjusts taxes accordingly, with no manual work needed from the seller. Available in Retail mode on Square Register, Square Handheld, or Square Terminal. *Valid USDA FNS authorization required. Sellers can customize the bottom navigation bar in Square Point of Sale by adding applets that were previously accessible only through the More menu. This gives direct, one-tap access to frequently used tools without navigating away from the main screen.

Staggered item prep times on Square KDS now account for the entire order, not just the items on each station's screen. Stations with quick items wait to fire so the whole order finishes together, and if a longer dish finishes early or is removed, waiting stations get an orange alert to start right away. Nothing to set up — devices with staggered item prep times on get this automatically.

The Consolidate identical items in the cart setting controls whether the same item added multiple times merges into a single line on Point of Sale. Turn it off to show each item on its own line, so staff can open and modify an individual item without splitting a grouped line first. The setting can be configured per mode.

Sellers now have more options when creating labels from Square Register. There are additional label sizes to choose from, plus more flexibility with content — including font styles and sizes, more fields to add, and more ways to organize what appears on each label.
