Feature log
All the things we’ve updated
With simplified pricing, you unlock more features when you upgrade plans. For example, Square Premium includes everything from Square Free and Square Plus.
Build multi-step modifier flows with nested options
Nest a modifier set under a specific modifier choice, and those selections only appear when that choice is picked, up to three levels deep. For example, selecting a milk could prompt a follow-up sweetness choice. Staff and customers see one clean flow, with no messy workarounds like duplicating sets.
Charge auto-gratuity before discounts are applied
Calculate auto-gratuity on the pre-discount subtotal instead of the discounted total, and set multiple rates for different service scenarios.
Control ticket padding in printer profiles
Printer profile settings control whether top and bottom padding appears on printed order tickets. A separate setting determines whether the ticket footer, which includes device and profile information, prints.
Edit prices and margins from the inventory receive screen
Update an item's price or margin directly from the inventory receive flow and stock overview item details on Point of Sale. When a shipment comes in at a new cost, you can see the margin impact and reprice on the spot.
Group items by category on Kitchen Display System
A setting on Kitchen Display System (KDS) lets sellers choose how ticket items are sorted: by the order they were rung in, alphabetically, or by category. When sellers choose category sorting, items are visually grouped on the ticket by the item's reporting category, so cooks find what they need in a consistent spot.
Merge tables directly from Point of Sale
Staff combine multiple tables into one group directly from Point of Sale during service, moving the tables together on the floor plan and updating the table number even after an order's been placed. Merged tables share a single check, letting teams manage large parties or flexible seating without switching to Dashboard.
Pay vendors with a Square Credit Card through Bill Pay
Select a Square Credit Card as a payment method in Bill Pay to pay vendors who don't accept cards directly. Bill Pay converts the payment into an ACH transfer, check, or another supported method for the vendor. A Bill Pay credit card fee applies and will display at the time of your card transaction — see [Bill Pay terms](https://squareup.com/us/en/legal/general/billpay) for additional information about transaction eligibility and fees.
See cart changes update in real time while configuring items
In Real Time Check View, a live cart panel sits alongside the item details screen in Food & Beverage modes, showing price, modifier, and quantity changes as each item is configured. Tap an item once to open its configuration, press and hold to select multiple items for bulk actions like comp, void, move, or remove, or enter custom amounts from the Actions tab since the calculator keypad has been retired.
Select a delivery courier per location
Choose between DoorDash or Best Available (powered by Nash) as the on-demand delivery courier for each Food & Beverage ordering profile, set independently by location.
Create custom reasons for inventory adjustments
Sellers create their own inventory adjustment reason types, such as shrinkage, damage, or theft, instead of choosing from a fixed list. Custom reasons appear in inventory history, making it easier to categorize and track stock losses by cause.
Set a specific count for limited-quantity items
Sellers can set a future available count to ensure the system reflects the right quantity at a specific time — whether an item is sold out and being prepped again, or currently available and being planned ahead. This count can also repeat on a daily or weekly cadence to support workflows where items are regularly prepared in batches.
Start a table with only a guest count
Servers can begin and save a table after entering a guest count, even before adding items to the check. The table stays occupied on the floor plan from the moment guests are seated, keeping table status accurate during service.
Updated labels for item visibility on business websites
Item listing status labels now use "hidden" and "not hidden" to control whether an item appears in Shop All and Order Online pages on your Square business website. Hidden items can still be purchased via direct link or added to featured items or sections on your website. This toggle appears under Channels in the item edit sheet, or as "Hidden status" when bulk editing. This replaces the previous "Hidden" and "Direct link only" labels — there's no change to how the setting works.
Adjustable font size for printed receipts
Set receipt font size to small, medium, or large on a per-station basis for easier reading by customers and staff.
Audible speaker cue for declined payments on Point of Sale
Point of Sale plays a tone through the device speaker when a card payment is declined, making declines easier to hear in noisy or busy environments. Turn the speaker cue on or off and preview the sound from device settings.
Automated sales tax withholding for Square Savings
A dedicated folder in Square Savings automatically sets aside the exact sales tax amount from every card sale. Tax rates pull from your existing tax settings and apply per transaction, including across multiple locations with different tax jurisdictions. Enable the automated sweep from your Square Savings account.
Automatically deduct from item total using negative-priced modifiers
Assign a negative price to any modifier option and Square deducts it from the item total at checkout — no manual adjustments needed. For example, set "no cheese" to -$1 and it comes off automatically when a customer selects it.
Customize display options in Order Manager
Hide fulfillment methods that don't apply to your business, like removing Shipments if you don't send orders through the mail. You can also show a running sales total for a logged-in team member.
Earn 1.5% cash back on every purchase with Square Credit Card
Square Credit Card now earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase — up from 1%. The rate applies to all cardholders.
Manage variation preselection independent of the item details screen
Control whether the first variation is automatically selected or manually chosen before the item is added to a check. This setting operates independently of the Skip customization when possible option.
Persistent alerts for new online orders on Point of Sale
Turn on full-screen alert with a looping chime plays on Point of Sale when an online or third-party marketplace order arrives. The alert repeats until a team member acknowledges it. Adjust alert duration, sound, and on/off state per device in settings.
Print an additional receipt at checkout on Terminal
## A setting on Terminal allows you to print a second itemized receipt at the end of a standard checkout. Enable it per device — it won't apply to your other Terminals automatically.
Set price overrides across multiple locations at once
Set different prices for the same item across multiple locations in a single action instead of one at a time. Price overrides are grouped by item for easier review.
Sync item grids across locations from Point of Sale on iOS
Sync item grids created in Standard Mode from one location to others without rebuilding them manually at each location.
Accept Bitcoin tap-to-pay on Square Register
Customers can tap their phone or device on the Square Register (2nd gen) customer display to pay with Bitcoin at checkout.
