Square for Restaurants Pricing

The Square for Restaurants monthly subscription cost is determined by the number of active locations and devices running the Restaurants POS app. There are three simple plans for Square for Restaurants:

  • Square for Restaurants Free - Unlimited devices (iPads and Square Registers). Unlimited locations.

  • Square for Restaurants Plus - For each location accessing Square for Restaurants Plus, there is a $60 subscription fee—charged on the first of every month. Use of Square for Restaurants Plus is included on your first device at each location, and it costs $40 per month for each additional device (per location).

  • Square for Restaurants Premium - Custom pricing is available if you process more than $250k in card processing per year. Contact our Sales Team to learn more.

All Square for Restaurants plans come with a free 30-day trial so you can see if the features suit your business. Learn more about the features of Square for Restaurants Free and Square for Restaurants Plus.

Locations & Devices

Your subscription pricing is the same across all locations on your account. For example, if one location has a subscription for Square for Restaurants Plus, then another location for the same account will not have access to the Restaurants Free Plan.

You can manage your device settings and subscriptions from your online Square Dashboard.

Here are some examples of the billing structure with Square for Restaurants.

2 Locations 2 devices on Square for Restaurants App at each location. $60 x 2 + $40 x 2 = $200

Fees

When you swipe, dip, or tap a customer’s card through the Square for Restaurants app, your processing fee will be 2.6% + $0.10 per transaction. For all other types of transactions (such as manually keyed-in payments), you’ll pay Square’s standard processing fee.

It’s important to note, the rate of 2.6% + 10¢ for card-present transactions is only for payments processed through the Restaurants POS app.

Also, if your subscription lapses or you unsubscribe from Square for Restaurants, you can still utilize the Square POS app to process payments at the standard rate of 2.6% + 10¢.

Afterpay and Square for Restaurants

Overview

With Square for Restaurants and Afterpay, customers to pay for in person transactions in four installments over six weeks.

  • If you’re eligible, you can accept Afterpay payments in store via your Square for Restaurants POS app.
  • Afterpay in-person is available with Square for Restaurants Free, Plus and Premium plans.
  • For all transactions, merchants get paid in full – immediately.

Afterpay Pricing

Square sellers using Afterpay get paid the full amount at the time of purchase, minus a processing fee on the total order. Enabling Afterpay with Square is free — there are no monthly fees or startup costs. You only pay when you make a sale for in-person transactions. There are no processing fees charged on the remaining installments or if your customer makes a late payment.

Afterpay in-person processing fee is 6% + 30¢ per sale.

Note: Afterpay rates are fixed and do not vary by subscription type, hardware, or custom pricing.

Enable or Disable Afterpay

You can go to Payment Methods to enable or disable Afterpay at any time.

Note: The setting for In-person payments with Afterpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Afterpay payments in-person. This includes other online platforms such as Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Retail and Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to enable/disable Afterpay only for Square for Restaurants at this time.
