Today, we’re introducing the Square Orders API, which allows developers to build solutions that let customers place orders online, in person, and in app.
If you use Square Point of Sale to ring up orders and take payments in person, you can now take that experience a step further and use your POS as an online and in-app order fulfilment and management hub.
With the new Orders API, developers can create enhanced commerce experiences from a single platform that can manage orders and order data and take payments. They can all be done from one centralized system. When your systems are well integrated, you can leverage the data to better understand your customers and provide them with unique experiences.
Orders API is the latest example of how our developer platform is expanding beyond payments to serve all aspects of commerce — from orders to customer management, inventory, and beyond.
Here is how three of our partners are using Orders API and the Square platform to create better experiences for their customers.
Postmates
Postmates uses our developer tools to implement a delivery integration that is designed to help Square sellers grow their business. Knowing that not every seller has the technical expertise necessary to create a custom on-demand delivery solution, Postmates used our developer tools to push orders generated from their mobile ordering app into Square Point of Sale.
Square and Postmates’ integration takes away the stress of implementing a new ordering platform and increases efficiency. Businesses can self-onboard, streamline their ordering process, and free themselves from a secondary tablet solution. This means faster and more accurate orders as they flow directly into a business’s Square account.
Craver
With the rise in mobile ordering, the demand for custom mobile apps has also risen. Craver is a mobile app platform that helps restaurants streamline ordering, reduce costs, and enhance their customer experience by creating customized mobile apps.
Craver leverages Square APIs for in-app payments, catalog, inventory, and order management to create a seamless integration between restaurants’ apps and the Square POS.
Restaurants that build their apps with Craver can quickly and easily sync menus and orders in their Square POS with their Craver app. This eliminates the need for a separate order management tablet and streamlines their ordering operations overall.
“Many of our customers already use and love Square Point of Sale, and integration with their existing system has been key to keeping their operations simple. With Craver, there’s no separate tablet to track online orders, and they never have to worry about missing an order.” – Amin Yazdani, Craver cofounder
GoParrot
GoParrot is a digital ordering platform designed for restaurant chains. With GoParrot, restaurants can accept orders from any channel, deliver food to customers, and create memorable customer experiences using loyalty and marketing programs.
Managing menus is one of the bigger problems for large chain restaurants. It often involves individual locations making manual changes, which can be difficult in the fast-moving world of quick-service restaurants.
By using the Square Catalog API, GoParrot has been able to implement automatic syncs between Square and GoParrot, ensuring GoParrot always accurately reflects the latest menu updates.
Additionally, with the Square Orders API and In-App Payments SDK, GoParrot restaurants can accept digital orders through GoParrot and manage them directly in their Square POS.
With the Square platform, GoParrot is able to create a connected unified commerce solution that seamlessly integrates digital ordering into their business.
“The customer should feel like their online and in-person experiences are the same. Square APIs allow us to extend the in-person experience that Square enables to other channels. The quality and extent of the APIs Square provides is really at a different level than what most POS providers offer.” – Ariel David, CTO and cofounder of GoParrot.
Orders API is available today in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and the UK. To learn more about the many other commerce APIs and SDKs now available on the Square developer platform, visit our Developer site.
