Today, we’re introducing the Square Orders API, which allows developers to build solutions that let customers place orders online, in person, and in app.

If you use Square Point of Sale to ring up orders and take payments in person, you can now take that experience a step further and use your POS as an online and in-app order fulfilment and management hub.

With the new Orders API, developers can create enhanced commerce experiences from a single platform that can manage orders and order data and take payments. They can all be done from one centralized system. When your systems are well integrated, you can leverage the data to better understand your customers and provide them with unique experiences.

Orders API is the latest example of how our developer platform is expanding beyond payments to serve all aspects of commerce — from orders to customer management, inventory, and beyond.

Here is how three of our partners are using Orders API and the Square platform to create better experiences for their customers.


Postmates uses our developer tools to implement a delivery integration that is designed to help Square sellers grow their business. Knowing that not every seller has the technical expertise necessary to create a custom on-demand delivery solution, Postmates used our developer tools to push orders generated from their mobile ordering app into Square Point of Sale.

Square and Postmates’ integration takes away the stress of implementing a new ordering platform and increases efficiency. Businesses can self-onboard, streamline their ordering process, and free themselves from a secondary tablet solution. This means faster and more accurate orders as they flow directly into a business’s Square account.
