Square for Retail Free
Square for Retail was built to provide retailers with all of the tools necessary to run their businesses at a monthly cost. You can now utilize Square for Retail through our new Free plan, which provides the same basic inventory experience, as well as synchronization between the Retail app and your online Square Dashboard. See the table below for a comparison of features between the Square for Retail Free plan and the Square for Retail Plus plan.

Once you sign up for a Square for Retail account and sign in to the app, you can access the Setup Guide. If you haven’t completed the primary setup steps, you can do so through the Setup Guide, as well as explore guided walkthroughs, tutorials, and advanced setup steps. You’ll also see a tracker at the top of the Setup Guide and/or Checkout screen that shows your setup progress.
To dismiss the Setup Guide, tap the “⋯” icon in the top-right corner of the guide, and select Dismiss Setup Guide. This will remove the Setup Guide tracker from your Checkout screen, but you can easily access it any time after you dismiss it. If you’re using Square for Retail on your iPhone, tap the Menu icon at the bottom right side of the app screen, and tap Support > Tutorials > Setup Guide. If you’re using Square for Retail on your iPad, tap the Menu icon at the bottom left side of the app screen, and tap Support > Tours and Tutorials > Setup Guide.
Note: Setup Guide is not currently available for Square Register, but you can access the same checklist directly from your online Square Dashboard.
Square for Retail Free FAQs
Do I need to create a new account if I want to try Square for Retail Free?
No. If you currently use Square for Retail Plus and would like to switch to the Free plan, you can downgrade by visiting Account & Settings > Pricing & Subscriptions in your online Square Dashboard. Under Payment Method, click Manage subscription next to Square for Retail Plus. From here, you can choose to downgrade to the Free version of Square for Retail.
What if I try out Square for Retail Free and decide I need to use Square for Retail Plus?
If you use Square for Retail Free and need to upgrade to Square for Retail Plus, you can do so by visiting Account & Settings > Pricing & Subscriptions in your online Square Dashboard. Under Payment Method, click Manage subscription next to Square for Retail Free. From here, you can choose to upgrade to Square for Retail Plus.
Will I lose any of my account information in the process of upgrading/downgrading?
Whether you upgrade/downgrade, your account will retain all information (e.g. items, inventory, settings, etc.) throughout the process. If you upgrade, the paid features will be ready to use once you’ve confirmed your payment method. If you downgrade, you will lose access to the paid features immediately, and will be billed a prorated amount for the time you used the Plus version.
Can I use my Square for Retail Free subscription with other products at Square?
Yes. Your Square for Retail Free subscription will work with other Square products, including Square Online, Team Management, Square Loyalty, and Square Marketing.
How will I know if a feature is unavailable with Square for Retail Free?
You will still see all Square for Retail features in your online Square Dashboard, but the features available to Square for Retail Plus will be greyed out.
