Square for Retail Pricing
The Square for Retail monthly subscription cost is determined by the plan you choose and the number of active locations in Square. Square for Retail Free is available at no cost and works with single-location accounts. Square for Retail Plus is available at £49 per month, per location. Locations & Devices
For each location accessing Square for Retail Plus’s advanced inventory system, there is a £49 subscription fee – charged on the first of the month.
You can manage your device settings and subscriptions from your online Square Dashboard.
Here are some examples of the billing structure with Square for Retail Plus.

Processing Fee
When you dip or tap your customer’s card through Square for Retail Plus for iOS, your processing fee will be 1.6% per transaction. When using Square for Retail Free to swipe, dip or tap your customer’s card, your processing fee will be 1.75%. For all other types of transactions (such as card-not-present, Virtual Terminal or invoices), you’ll pay Square’s standard processing fee.

*The rate of 1.6% for card-present transactions is only applicable to payments processed when signed into a Square for Retail Plus account on the Retail POS app. If you process payments on Square Point of Sale or Retail POS Free version, you will pay the standard processing fee of 1.75% for card-present transactions.
Also, if your subscription lapses or you unsubscribe from Square for Retail, you can still utilise Square for Retail Free to process payments, but your processing fee will return back to the standard 1.75%.
Clearpay and Square for Retail
With Square for Retail and Clearpay, customers to pay for online or in-person transactions in four instalments over six weeks.
- If you’re eligible, you can accept Clearpay payments in store via your Square for Retail POS app or via your Square Online website.
- Clearpay is available with Square for Retail Free, Plus and Premium plans.
- For all transactions, merchants get paid in full – immediately.

Square sellers using Clearpay get paid the full amount at the time of purchase, minus a processing fee on the total order. Enabling Clearpay with Square is free – there are no monthly fees or start-up costs. You only pay when you make a sale for in-person appointments. There are no processing fees charged on the remaining instalments or if your customer makes a late payment.
Clearpay processing fees are 6% + £0.30.
Note: Clearpay rates are fixed and do not vary by subscription type, hardware or custom pricing.
You can go to Payment Methods to enable or disable Clearpay at any time.
Note: The setting for in-person payments with Clearpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Clearpay payments in person. This includes other online platforms such as Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Restaurants and Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to enable/disable Clearpay only for Square for Retail at this time.
