Square for Retail Pricing
TheSquare for Retailmonthly subscription cost is determined by the plan you choose and the number of active locations in Square.
Square for Retail Free is available at no cost.
Square for Retail Plus is available at $89 per month, per location. Learn more about the differences between Square for Retail Free and Square for Retail Plus.

Get Started
If you’ve already created a Square account, upgrading to Square for Retail is simple. Once you subscribe, all of your existing account information will be available with Square for Retail Free, Plus or Premium – including your items, customers, bank account information and inventory.

Locations & Devices
For each active location in Square, there is a $89 subscription fee on the first of the month. Here are some examples of the billing structure with Square for Retail Plus.

You can manage your device settings and subscriptions from your online Square Dashboard.
Fees
When you swipe, dip, or tap your customer’s card through Square for Retail Plus for iOS or Square Register, your processing fee will be 2.5% + 10 cents per transaction.
When using Square for Retail Free to swipe, dip, or tap your customer’s card, your processing fee will be 2.6% + 10 cents.
For all other types of transactions, you’ll pay the Square standard processing fee.
It’s important to note, the rate of 2.5% + 10 cents for in-person payments is only applicable to payments processed when signed in to a Square for Retail Plus account on the Square Retail POS app. If you use the Square Point of Sale app or Square for Retail Free to process payments, you will pay the standard processing fee of 2.6% + 10 cents for card-present transactions.
If your subscription lapses or you unsubscribe from Square for Retail, you can still utilize Square for Retail Free to process payments, but your processing fee will return back to the standard 2.6% + 10 cents.

*The rate of 2.5% + 10 cents for in-person payments is only applicable to payments processed when signed into a Square for Retail Plus account on the Retail POS. If you process payments on Square Point of Sale or Retail Point of Sale Free version, you will pay the standard processing fee of 2.6% + 10 cents for in-person payments.
Afterpay and Square for Retail
With Square for Retail and Afterpay, customers can pay for transactions in four installments over six weeks.
- If you’re eligible, you can accept Afterpay payments between $1 to $2,000 in store via your Square for Retail POS app or via your Square Online website.
- Afterpay is available with Square for Retail Free, Plus and Premium plans.

Square sellers using Afterpay get paid the full amount at the time of purchase, minus a processing fee on the total order. Enabling Afterpay with Square is free — there are no monthly fees or startup costs. There are no processing fees charged on the remaining installments or if your customer makes a late payment.
Afterpay online and in-person payments are 6% + 30 cents per sale.
Note: Afterpay rates are fixed and do not vary by subscription type, hardware, or custom pricing.
You can go to Payment Methods via your online Square Dashboard to enable or disable Afterpay at any time.
Note: The setting for In-person payments with Afterpay is global and applies across all Square products that can also take Afterpay payments in-person. This includes other online platforms such as Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Restaurants, Square Invoices and Virtual Terminal. There isn’t a way to enable/disable Afterpay only for Square for Retail at this time.
