Release notes

Booking add-ons, bulk pricing, and smarter kitchen tickets

Add optional service add-ons to the online booking flow

What changed: Sellers can attach add-on services to any bookable appointment — each with its own price and duration. Clients select add-ons while booking online and see their selections at checkout and in the booking confirmation. Square Appointments automatically updates the appointment price, reserved time, and calendar availability based on the add-ons chosen.

Why it matters: Clients can add a facial to a massage while they book, and the appointment adjusts its own length and price to match — so the calendar stays accurate without anyone touching it.

Access: Square Appointments with online booking is required. In Dashboard, go to Items & services > Items > Modifiers to create an add-on and set its price, duration, and sales channels. Then open the service in Service library and attach the modifier set.

Exclude specific items or variations from discounts

What changed: Sellers mark specific items or variations as ineligible for discounts. Exclusions are set per item or variation and apply across all channels where the item or variation is active. At checkout, excluded items and variations remain at full price even when a discount applies to the rest of the order.

Why it matters: Excluded items stay at full price automatically, so a single discount can cover the whole catalog.

Access: In Dashboard, go to Items > Item Library and open an item. Under Manage checkout, set Discount eligibility for the item or specific variations. To update many items at once, select them in the Item Library, choose Bulk edit, and turn on the Discount eligibility column under Attributes.

Set different tax rules for pickup, delivery, and dine-in on online orders

What changed: Sellers can exempt or reduce sales tax on online orders based on whether the order is for pickup, delivery, or dine-in. These conditions previously applied only to in-person orders.

Why it matters: A restaurant that offers delivery through a third-party platform may owe a different tax rate on delivered meals than on dine-in orders. With fulfillment method conditions extended to online orders, sellers set one rule in Dashboard and it applies automatically — no manual adjustment per channel.

Access: In Dashboard, go to Settings > Account & Settings > Payments > Sales Taxes. Open a custom rule and set Pickup, Delivery, or Dine-in as a condition, with the exemption or reduction that applies. Fulfillment method conditions apply to default sales taxes only.

Get low-stock alert emails after each location closes

What changed: Sellers receive low-stock alert emails 90 minutes after each location's configured closing time, rather than at one fixed time for the entire account. Each location's alert reflects that location's own business hours.

Why it matters: Each location gets its own alert, timed to when that location closes — so the counts reflect a full day of sales, with time to reorder.

Access: Sellers who already use low-stock email alerts move to the new schedule automatically. No setup required.

Move ready tickets to front on Kitchen Display System Expo

What changed: An opt-in setting in the Expo device profile on Kitchen Display System (KDS) moves tickets to the front of the queue once all prep stations mark them complete. When enabled, tickets that are ready for final assembly or handoff automatically reorder ahead of tickets still awaiting prep work. The setting applies to Expo profiles only and does not change ticket ordering on prep-station displays.

Why it matters: At a high-volume restaurant during a rush, completed plates can sit in the window while expo staff scan across multiple screens looking for the orders that are actually ready to go out. Automatic reordering puts the next actionable ticket at the front of the queue so expo staff see it immediately.

Access: Enable either in Dashboard by opening the Expo device profile and going to Layout > Ticket sequence, or directly on the Expo device under Settings > Layout > Ticket sequence. Select Move ready tickets to front. This option is available only for Expo devices.

Pay bills from an external bank account

What changed: Sellers connect an external bank account as a funding source for bill payments in Square Bill Pay. In addition to debit cards, credit cards, and Square Checking, bills can be paid directly from a linked bank account — giving sellers a third funding option without leaving Square.

Why it matters: An owner who keeps operating funds in an external bank account previously had to log into a separate banking app to pay vendor invoices, then return to Square for everything else. With an external bank account connected as a funding source, they handle supplier payments and daily operations from one place.

Access: Sellers in the US with access to Square Bill Pay connect a bank account from the Bill Pay settings page. After connecting, that account appears as a funding source when paying a bill.

Schedule price updates from Dashboard

What changed: Sellers can schedule bulk price changes for items and variations directly from the Item Library on Dashboard. This allows sellers to set unique prices per item or variation, including location-specific overrides, and choose a future date and time. The updates go live automatically at the scheduled moment.

Why it matters: Price changes usually need to take effect at a specific moment — the start of a promotion, or a new supplier cost. Scheduling separates when the work happens from when the prices change, so nothing shifts mid-service.

Access: Available on Square Dashboard for sellers on Square Plus and above. Schedule price updates from the bulk actions menu in the Item Library or from the item edit sheet. Edit or cancel pending updates from Actions in the Item Library.

Split "fired" and "held" All Day counts on Kitchen Display System

What changed: Sellers can separate each item's All Day count into "fired" and "held" totals on Kitchen Display System (KDS). A flame icon shows the quantity firing, and a hold icon shows the quantity held. Held counts include held courses on live tickets and tickets that are entirely on hold.

Why it matters: A kitchen running coursed service previously saw a single combined number that mixed dishes firing now with dishes held for a later course. Separate counts give cooks an accurate read so they prep and fire the right quantity.

Access: Available on KDS. Turn on "Separate fired and held counts" on each device under Settings > Tickets > All day counts. The setting is off by default, so kitchens keep the combined total until they opt in.

Change measurement units during inventory counts

What changed: Sellers can switch between individual units, cases, or other configured units while performing a full or cycle inventory count. No need to leave the count screen to change units. When counting a variation, sellers select which configured unit to count in, and the system converts the quantity to the base unit automatically.

Why it matters: A retailer that stocks a product by one unit but sells it by another can count in whichever unit is physically in front of them during the count. So a shop that buys wine by the case and sells it by the bottle can count 12 cases instead of 144 bottles, and the stock total still lands in bottles. The system handles the conversion.

Access: Available with Square Plus. In the Inventory Applet, go to Stock counts, start a new Full or Cycle count, add variations to count, and select a unit while counting.

View Appointments in dark mode

What changed: Square Appointments supports a dark mode display option. The app follows the device-level theme setting, rendering the interface with a dark background and light text when dark mode is active on the device.

Why it matters: Dark mode reduces visual strain in low-light environments during early-morning or late-evening sessions.

Access: Sellers set their device to dark mode through the device's system settings, and Square Appointments follows that preference automatically.
