What to expect when testing

Welcome to the Square Beta Program

Beta features are hardware or software being tested by a subset of customers (YOU!) before they’re released to the public. We run betas to identify areas of improvement for these new products before they are publically available to ensure all sellers receive tools that truly empower their business. In the Square Beta Program, the beta team selects testers across all types of businesses, including those in the restaurant, retail, services, and health and beauty industries, and more. After testers have tested the product or feature, your feedback is collected and reported back to our product teams. As a beta tester, your feedback directly helps Square build the right products with your business needs in mind. The Square development process values seller feedback and insights to plan its future.

What to expect from the Square Beta Team

Beta Selection:

Invitations: You will receive an invitation to join active beta tests through Beta Community posts or direct emails. Follow the specific instructions in the post or email to be included. Betas typically begin one to three weeks after invitations are sent..

Pre-qualified: Sometimes early access is granted to a feature without an invitation. These tests typically involve features that will soon be available to all Square sellers and have a zero-to-low risk of disrupting day-to-day business.

Support:

Content: Check your invitation email and Beta Community testing group to learn more about the feature and how to get started. We often publish a support article that outlines how to get started with this feature and tips to improve your experience.

Questions: The beta team can answer questions about a beta test in the Beta Community or by email.

A beta test is only successful with your participation. The Square Beta Program is all about learning from your experience with beta tests and hearing your feedback. Here are the best ways to be active in the Beta Community.

Use the feature

It’s as simple as that — check out the feature as soon as it’s available.

Share your feedback

We want to hear it — good, bad, and anything in between. Tell us about the setup process, your employee and customer experiences, and how you’re using this feature in your day-to-day business.

Report any bugs or issues

When you notice something not working as you expect, let us know as soon as you can. The more detail you can provide, the faster we can help. Explain the steps you took to make the issue happen, as well as the specific transactions, employees, or devices involved. If possible, take a video of the issue as it happens.

Answer surveys

Most beta tests involve surveys throughout the testing period. Surveys are typically 10 questions or less and ask for specific insight about the feature. Your survey responses provide Square with valuable insights for making future changes or improvements and help us decide if we’re ready to launch. By taking certain surveys, you may even have the opportunity to engage in direct conversations with our product teams and, in exchange for your time, earn free processing credit or gift cards.
