The Square contactless and chip reader is supported on iOS and Android devices with the following:

  • The latest software version: Android 4.4 or above, and iOS 8 or iOS 9.1 and above.
  • An updated version of the Square app: Version 4.30 or higher for iOS, and version 4.32 or higher for Android. Learn how to update your app.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

Below you’ll find a list of devices currently compatible with the contactless and chip card reader. You can also check if your specific device is supported here.

If you’re using Square Stand, you can connect the reader to your stand’s USB hardware hub to accept any payment type. Mobile devices not connected to Square Stand will connect wirelessly with the reader.

Apple iOS Compatibility & Contactless Reader
