Square Appointments FAQ
Review answers to commonly asked questions about using Square Appointments.
How can I get started with Square Appointments?
How much does it cost to use Appointments?
Pricing for Square Appointments is based on the number of staff you have associated with your account. If you’re using Square Appointments for Individuals, there is no monthly subscription fee.
When you create staff to manage and book appointments with your account, you’ll be charged a monthly service charge depending on the number of active staff associated with your account.
Note: There is no extra fee for using Appointments with multiple locations.
Can I get a free trial for Square Appointments for Teams?
Yes! When you create a staff member, you’ll begin your free 30-day trial.
Is Square Appointments right for my business?
Square Appointments is built to work with businesses of any size looking for a scheduling and point-of-sale system, including independent hairdressers, barbershops with multiple staff, photographers on the go and other service professionals who book their time. If you use Timely, Kitomba, Shortcuts or Acuity Scheduling, Square Appointments will likely fit more of your needs with our easy-to-use interface.
How can I switch from my current solution?
You can bulk import your customer list and inventory list to quickly get up and running with Square Appointments.
Can I add booking with Appointments to my existing website?
Yes! If you already have a website, you can add the Appointments online booking widget to create a booking button. If you don’t have a website, Appointments offers a free online booking site for your clients to book online.
Can I use passcodes to track my staff’s sales?
While you can use passcodes to track staff hours, it’s not recommended that you use team passcodes to track staff sales. The sale will automatically be associated with the staff member the appointment was booked with.
What if I don’t want to give my staff full access?
You can limit your staff’s access to Appointments by adjusting their individual employee profile.
Service Provider: Allows staff member to manage their own calendar.
Front Desk: Access to all staff calendars.
Manager: Allows access to all calendars and account information. Manager role also allows staff members to sync their personal Google Calendar to Square Appointments.
Note: All of the above pre-set permission groups will automatically have Access Mobile Point of Sale enabled, with limited access. If you create a new group, you’ll need to make sure to manually enable this setting to allow your staff access to the Appointments app.
What hardware or equipment will I need?
You can use Square Appointments on any desktop, tablet or smartphone using a web browser or the Square Appointments app, available in the App Store or Google Play. Square Appointments is also compatible with Square Register, our all-in-one hardware that features two screens for an intuitive, socially distant checkout. For the best customer checkout experience, we recommend using Square Appointments with Square Register or with an iPad and Square Stand. Note: At this time, Square Terminal does not support the Square Appointments app, but we plan to add this capability soon.
Will the Appointments app work on an Android device?
Yes! Learn how to download and set up the Square Appointments App for Android.

Can I use Square Appointments to schedule classes or group bookings?
Not at this time.
Will my Loyalty Program work with the Square Appointments app?
Yes! Clients can earn stars when you check them out from the Appointments app. However, to update your customer’s Loyalty status manually, you’ll need to use the Square Point of Sale app. Read more about using Loyalty with the Point of Sale app.
Note: Square Appointments on Square Register does not feature Square Loyalty at this time. We recommend either using the Square Appointments app to checkout customers or using Square Point of Sale on your Square Register to access your Loyalty Program.
What happens if my client cancels last minute, or doesn’t show up for their appointment?
Why is my client seeing appointment times in a different time zone?
The time zone on your client’s computer will set the time zone on your booking flow and reminder emails.
Your client can select a different time zone when booking. Learn more about online booking.
