Last-Minute Halloween Social Media Ideas You Can Implement Today

Halloween is just around the corner, but that doesn’t mean you’ve completely missed the boat in terms of marketing. The great thing about social media is that you can brainstorm some creative ideas and implement them right away.

Here are some last-minute social media marketing ideas to help get your business in the spooky spirit.

Decorate your walls.

A no-brainer Halloween social media idea is to update your header and profile photos in the spirit of the holiday. New Halloween-themed images can catch your followers’ attention, putting your business at the top of their minds. It’s also a great chance to promote any Halloween-specific promotions you might be running.

Get in the spirit.

Make it a mission for the rest of October to post Halloween-themed images to your social channels. Imagine ways to make pop culture work for you. Tide used famous scenes from the movie Carrie, based on the 1974 novel by Stephen King, and ran the tagline “Stains better be scared”.

How could you use beloved characters to promote your brand? Think Frankenstein or a ghost enjoying your location — think Frankenstein drinking a pumpkin cocktail at a bar or Winifred Sanderson of Hocus Pocus coming in for hairstyling at your salon.

Take some video.

You don’t need a ton of planning (or a budget) to create video content on social media. Post Snapchat and Instagram stories of your business’s Halloween decorations, or of your staff getting in the spirit. People love unscripted, behind-the-scenes content, especially if it’s quirky or funny. This is a great chance to show off your business’s personality.

Create a photo boo-th

For an omnichannel marketing experience, consider setting up a spooky photo boo-th in your brick-and-mortar location. Include props like spider webs, a witch hat, or silly masks. In the time leading up to Halloween, encourage customers to “Share their Scare” using your prominently displayed branded hashtags and tagging your social channels.

On Halloween, encourage customers to use the boo-th to showcase their costumes. You can share your favorite shots (with customers’ permission, of course). It’s a fun social media marketing tactic that can help draw some great engagement.

Put together a guide.

Target created a jump-off point for DIY Halloween ideas on Instagram, linking out to recipes, costume ideas, craft projects, and party-hosting tips. Then it encouraged followers to post pictures of their “trick” or “treat” using its special #HalloweenHills hashtag.

You could translate this idea into some kind of product guide by bundling items and creating packages with fun names like “Zombie Apocalypse Survival Kit.” Then, post these packages in a styled way on Instagram and tweet a discount.

A travel agency or hotel could put together something like “The Ultimate Guide to Halloween in San Francisco” and include can’t-miss events, haunted house tours, trick-or-treat stops, and spooky landmarks (like pet cemeteries or columbariums). Post trivia teasers for your guide and a special code on your social channels for followers to mention when booking so they can get a copy of the guide.

Halloween is a fun, let-your-hair-down holiday. So now’s the time to get in the spirit with these quick and easy Halloween social media ideas.
