Compare Square Stand and Square Stand Mount
The newest additions to the Square Stand family give you more customization options depending on your storefront needs. Square Stand (2nd generation) offers a familiar countertop point of sale with a swiveling customer-facing base. Square Stand Mount features several different mounting options for placement on a wall, countertop, or any 100x100mm VESA-compatible mount, such as a standing pedestal.

Key Similarities
Square Stand Mount and Square Stand (2nd generation) share several similarities.
Square Stand and Square Stand Mount are compatible with several iPad models. Before purchasing a Square Stand, make sure you’re using a supported iPad. If you are not starting out with your own iPad, you can purchase one with your Square Stand from the Square Shop.
Square Stand (2nd generation) and Square Stand Mount are compatible with the following iPads:
- 9th Generation iPad (2021), 10.2” screen
- 8th Generation iPad (2020), 10.2” screen
- 7th Generation iPad (2019), 10.2” screen
- iPad Air 3 (2019), 10.5” screen
- iPad Pro 10.5” (2017)
Note: At this time, Square Stand and Square Stand Mount are not compatible with the 10.9” iPad (10th generation, 2022).
Square Stand and Square Stand Mount are both compatible with the Square Point of Sale apps. You can get started with the free Square Point of Sale app or one of our specialized apps including Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail, Square Appointments, and Square Online.
The integrated payment processors for both Square Stand and Square Stand Mount will accept every way your customers want to pay, including EMV chip cards and contactless options like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. You can plug a Square Reader for magstripe into your Square Stand or Square Stand Mount via the Stand audio jack to swipe gift cards and cards that don’t have a chip. You may add one to your cart for free when purchasing Square Stand Mount, purchase separately on Square Shop, or purchase at one of our retail partners.
Square Stand and Square Stand Mount must be connected to a power source to accept payments and utilize USB accessories.

Square Stand and Square Stand Mount must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to accept payments. You can also use the cellular connection through the attached iPad to provide a network connection.
Square Stand and Square Stand Mount come with a USB hub to easily connect Square hardware accessories. You can also connect to Bluetooth printers and scanners using your iPad, as well as network (ethernet) printers over your iPad’s Wi-Fi connection. Both Square Stand and Square Stand Mount support a variety of accessory types, including:

The main differences between Square Stand (2nd generation) and Square Stand Mount are the physical hardware installation options. Additional mounting hardware such as third-party pedestals or swivel mounts are sold separately, but can be purchased at the Square Shop.

Square Stand Mount has a flexible range of locations and can be fixed to a wall, counter, or a VESA-compatible mount.

Square Stand Mount doesn’t swivel and is fixed in place, facing one direction — whether that’s facing your staff, facing your customers, or both. Its wall-mounted setup options are ideal for high-traffic, high-clutter areas where a traditional countertop station doesn’t fit.
Square Stand swivels 180 degrees, so your iPad doubles as a customer display.
