Feature log
All the things we’ve updated
Adjustable font size for printed receipts
Set receipt font size to small, medium, or large on a per-station basis for easier reading by customers and staff.
Audible speaker cue for declined payments on Point of Sale
Square Point of Sale plays a tone through the device speaker when a card payment is declined, making declines easier to hear in noisy or busy environments. Turn the speaker cue on or off and preview the sound from device settings.
Automatically deduct from item total using negative-priced modifiers
Assign a negative price to any modifier option and Square deducts it from the item total at checkout — no manual adjustments needed. For example, set "no cheese" to -$1 and it comes off automatically when a customer selects it.
Customise display options in Order Manager
Hide fulfilment methods that don't apply to your business, like removing Shipments if you don't send orders by post. You can also show a running sales total for a logged-in team member.
Manage variation preselection independent of the item details screen
Control whether the first variation is automatically selected or manually chosen before the item is added to a check. This setting operates independently of the Skip customisation when possible option.
Persistent alerts for new online orders on Point of Sale
Turn on the full-screen alert with a looping chime that plays on Point of Sale when an online or third-party marketplace order arrives. The alert repeats until a team member acknowledges it. Adjust alert duration, sound, and on/off state per device in settings.
Print an additional receipt at checkout on Square Terminal
## A setting on Terminal allows you to print a second itemised receipt at the end of a standard checkout. Enable it per device — it won't apply to your other Terminals automatically.
Set price overrides across multiple locations at once
Set different prices for the same item across multiple locations in a single action instead of one at a time. Price overrides are grouped by item for easier review.
Sync item grids across locations from Point of Sale on iOS
Sync item grids created in Standard Mode from one location to others without rebuilding them manually at each location.
Allergy and dietary preferences by seat
Staff can add allergens, dietary preferences, and custom notes to each seat on an order. These details show up on tickets and the kitchen display so every dish is prepared correctly.
Drag to move or merge bills on the floor plan
On the Square for Restaurants floor plan (iOS and Android tablets), team members can press and hold an occupied table and drag it onto another table to move the check. Dragging onto another occupied table prompts a merge confirmation. A passcode or permission is required when moving another team member's check.
Hide sold-out modifier options from checkout
A display setting hides sold-out modifier options from checkout screens so only in-stock choices appear. Those with large modifier lists — like dozens of ice cream flavours — see only available items instead of scrolling through unavailable ones.
Route item categories to the right printer — new ones follow automatically
Printer profiles can be set to automatically print or skip tickets for entire item categories. New categories added in the future follow the same rules without manual updates.
Add items by category when creating a cycle count
When setting up a cycle count, you can select a category to automatically add all items within it. This lets you populate your cycle count without selecting items one by one.
Advanced rules for manual discounts
Manual discounts support advanced rules including category-based targeting, buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offers, and conditional logic. These rule types, previously limited to automatic discounts, can be configured when creating or editing any manual discount.
Appeal a compliance-related account deactivation
Sellers whose accounts have been deactivated for compliance reasons can submit an appeal directly from the Square Support Portal. The self-service appeal process lets you provide additional information for Square to review your case, without needing to contact support.
Custom text colours for modifiers on KDS
You can assign custom text colours to modifiers so they stand out on your Kitchen Display System. Colours are configured per modifier from the Modifiers page in the Items section of Square Dashboard.
Daily auto-reset for ticket numbers
Ticket numbers automatically reset to #1 before each business day. The reset fires 15 minutes before your configured opening hours, or at 4 am if business hours aren't set. The existing max-value reset (at 100 or 1,000) still applies, so tickets reset on whichever trigger comes first: time of day or max reached.
Dark mode available across all Square Point of Sale apps
Dark mode is available across all Square Point of Sale apps on iOS, not just Food & Beverage. The updated colour scheme matches market design standards for improved readability in low-light environments such as bars, theatres, and spas.
Dedicated settings for Kiosk mode
Kiosk mode includes a dedicated settings experience where you can manage device groups, assign menus, configure branding, and control individual kiosk devices. All kiosk configuration lives in one place rather than requiring navigation across multiple settings screens.
Magic link fallback when captcha verification fails
If CAPTCHA verification fails during login, you can verify your identity through a magic link sent to your email address. This provides an alternative way to access your account without being blocked by false-positive CAPTCHA results.
Advanced rules for manual discounts
Manual discounts support advanced rules including category targeting, BOGO conditions, and conditional logic. These rule types, previously limited to automatic discounts, can be configured when creating or editing any manual discount.
Automatic discounts on web and app-based ordering
Automatic discounts display and apply across menu, item, and cart views in web and app-based ordering. Sellers configure discount rules (percentage off, dollar off, buy one get one free, or time-windowed promotions) once, and eligible discounts apply at checkout without manual intervention.
Bar tabs and pre-authorisation in Standard mode
Food and beverage sellers using Square Point of Sale in Standard mode can open bar tabs with card pre-authorisation. When a customer opens a tab, POS places a hold on their card and releases or adjusts the final amount when the tab is closed.
Compact ticket mode and font size settings for printed tickets
You can customise printed ticket density and font size on both iOS and Android. Compact ticket mode tightens spacing to fit sticky labels and reduce paper usage. Font size options let you adjust text readability for kitchen staff. These settings apply to tickets printed from Square Point of Sale, including online orders.
