Compact ticket mode and font size settings for printed tickets

Feature
14 May 2026
POS

You can customise printed ticket density and font size on both iOS and Android. Compact ticket mode tightens spacing to fit sticky labels and reduce paper usage. Font size options let you adjust text readability for kitchen staff. These settings apply to tickets printed from Square Point of Sale, including online orders.

Service-level deposit settings for appointments

Feature
14 May 2026
Appointments, Payments

You can require deposits on a per-service basis when clients book appointments. Each service in your catalogue has its own deposit policy and amount, so higher-value or longer services can carry different deposit requirements than shorter ones. Deposits help protect against no-shows by collecting partial payment at the time of booking.

Time-based availability for menu groups on Square Online

Feature
14 May 2026
Online

Square Online supports time-based availability at the menu group level, not just the menu level. Within a single menu, you can set hours for specific menu groups for easier dayparting (e.g., lunch versus dinner service) or time-based specials like happy hour and limited-time offers. If you use time-based categories such as "Lunch" or "Happy Hour," they display on your Square Online site according to their scheduled hours without requiring separate menus for each time window.

Menu editing enforces team member location permissions

30 April 2026

Assign modifier sets to specific sales channels from your Square Dashboard

9 April 2026
Items & Inventory, Sales channels

You can now control which sales channels display each modifier set from Square Dashboard. When editing a modifier set, select the channels where it should appear, such as POS, Square Online, or third-party delivery platforms. This lets you show different modifier options depending on the ordering channel.

Details
Use Square Dashboard to assign modifiers to the channels and locations where they should appear — online, in Square Point of Sale, or delivery apps — without editing each channel separately. Apply changes in bulk, preview which modifiers are active per channel, and keep pricing or availability consistent where it matters most. By narrowing modifier visibility to the right channels you reduce customer confusion and order errors, speed up checkout, and cut down on manual updates. This makes menu management simpler across multiple locations and sales channels so you can focus on service and sales instead of chasing mismatched options.

Automatic card surcharging now applies to bar tab payments

9 April 2026
Payments, POS

Automatic Card Surcharging (ACS) now works with pre-authorised card payments, including bar tabs. When a customer's credit card is pre-authorised to open a tab, the surcharge is calculated and applied when the final payment is captured at tab close. Previously, ACS did not apply surcharges to pre-authorised payment flows.

Edit team member on closed orders

9 April 2026
Orders

You can now change the assigned team member on a closed order. This allows you to correct team member attribution after an order is completed, ensuring accurate tip and commission records.

Details
Easily change which team member is credited on a closed order to correct mistakes or reflect who actually handled the sale. You won’t need to reopen or alter the transaction totals—just update the staff attribution so reports, tip allocation, and timecard summaries reflect the correct person. Changes are tracked so you have an audit trail for reconciliation and payroll review, and access to the feature is governed by staff permissions so you control who can make edits. That means fewer payroll corrections, clearer shift reporting, and less time spent resolving attribution errors at the end of the day.

Offline payments enabled by default for all sellers

9 April 2026
Payments, POS

Offline payments are now turned on by default, allowing your Square Point of Sale to accept card payments during network or Square outages. You can adjust offline payment settings or disable the feature from your POS device settings. Offline transactions are processed once connectivity is restored, and declined transactions remain the seller's responsibility.

Details
When your internet goes down, your Square Point of Sale and compatible Square hardware switch to taking offline payments and queue card payments so you can finish the sale. Queued transactions are stored securely on the device and automatically process when connectivity is restored, so you don’t have to re-enter sales or risk losing revenue. Keeping payments flowing helps you serve customers faster, avoid lines, and reduce staff steps during outages. If you’d rather require online authorization, you can disable offline payments in your Square Point of Sale settings; otherwise the feature is on by default to keep your checkout reliable.
