It's no surprise that Happyfield won Good Food Guide's 2024 Cafe of the Year. But what was a surprise was the even longer queues that gathered in the aftermath. Co-founders Chris Theodosi and Jesse Orleans had just expanded their seating to the room next door ("Happy Room") to help alleviate the long waiting times, only for them to extend back up after the award announcement.

Instead of opening a second Happyfield in a different area, the pair decided to open a sibling takeaway venue just two doors down serving Happyfield fan-favourite specials, and some newer dishes. Now, if guests don't want to wait an hour, there's always the option to get a quick (and happy) bite just down the road.

This is the story of how these two friends created one of Sydney's busiest cafes.
