Square Adds DoorDash to its On-Demand Delivery Platform for Square Online Sellers
Sellers can dispatch delivery drivers for orders placed directly on their website through DoorDash Drive
In June, Square announced on-demand delivery, allowing Square Online sellers to dispatch couriers through third party partners for orders placed directly on their website. Now, through a new partnership with DoorDash Drive sellers can tap into DoorDash’s nationwide network of Dashers as a new fulfillment option.
Chris Pastena, the owner of the Chop Bar, a fast-casual restaurant in Oakland, California has been using on-demand delivery for Square Online said it helped him stay ahead of the curve in recent months. “With the threat of additional shelter-in-place orders looming, it’s more important than ever to be flexible and maintain our focus on pickup and delivery to continue serving our customers. Square Online’s on-demand delivery feature allowed us to quickly, affordably, and efficiently provide delivery options and keep our doors open.”
On-Demand Delivery allows sellers to own their fulfillment process by offering delivery directly to their loyal customer base from their own website. When an order is placed on a restaurant’s Square Online ordering page, a DoorDash Dasher is dispatched to the business location, picks up the order, and delivers it to the buyer. The buyer is able to track their meal every step of the way, with links to live maps that provide real-time details of the courier’s progress. Sellers pay a flat fee of $1.50 per order to Square, and a flat DoorDash delivery fee. Restaurants can take control of costs by passing a portion of their fees to the buyer or offer custom delivery promotions.
The continued growth of Square Online’s on-demand delivery platform provides restaurant sellers with affordable fulfillment options, increased national coverage, and speedy access to couriers in a challenging year for restaurants when every sale means even more than usual.
DoorDash Drive is DoorDash’s white label fulfillment platform which allows any restaurant to begin offering delivery through their own channels by tapping into DoorDash’s logistics technology and fleet of Dashers.
“We’re so excited to team up with DoorDash,” said David Rusenko, head of eCommerce at Square. “We’re dedicated to providing restaurants access to the tools they need to thrive, especially during this challenging new business environment, and look forward to partnering with DoorDash to help achieve that goal.”
Sellers also benefit when combining On-Demand Delivery with other products like Square Marketing and Square Loyalty to strengthen customer relationships, create open lines of communication with regulars, and incentivize new patrons to keep coming back through promotions. Sellers can now get started with On-Demand Delivery powered by DoorDash or Postmates, with additional delivery partners coming soon.
On-Demand Delivery is just the latest feature we’ve built to help sellers take their business online. Since every business has different needs, sellers can use Square Online to fulfill orders however it makes the most sense for their operation - whether that’s via QR-code powered self-serve ordering, curbside pickup, shipping, local seller powered delivery, or by working with delivery partners.
