What is the Square Partnerships Black Equity Grant Program?

In alignment with the Square mission of economic empowerment, we began the Black Equity Grant Program to support the growth of Black developers after recognizing that many technologies founded by historically underrepresented communities were also underresourced, lacking the necessary funding and resources to build on Square. This program will provide Black-led platform partners with both financial support as well as increased exposure and visibility.

Partner Eligibility and Grant Details

  • How do partners qualify for the grant?

    In order to be eligible, a partner must meet the following criteria:

    1. The partner’s company must have been founded by or have a current CEO who identifies as Black/African American.
    2. The partner’s company must be headquartered in the U.S. and serve U.S.-based customers.
    3. The partner’s platform must be publicly launched (i.e., it cannot be in alpha, beta, or stealth).
    4. The partner must have at least five (5) monthly active customers of any size.
    5. The partner must be willing and able to begin development of a new integration between partner and Square, to be utilized by the partner within three (3) months of applying for this grant. The partner must also complete the integration and launch within nine (9) months of grant approval.

  • How much funding will grant awardees receive?

    Grant awardees will be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in total funding, broken down as follows:

    • All grant awardees will receive an initial $5,000 grant.
    • Following receipt of the initial award, grant awardees will subsequently be eligible to receive up to $10,000 in additional incremental grants following the meeting of specified milestones as outlined in the grant agreement.

  • How will grant awardees be selected?

    Selected grant awardees will be chosen to receive this grant on a first-come, first-serve, basis. If for any reason any of the chosen grant awardees is unable to accept the grant, an alternate grant awardee will be chosen, as remaining grant funds allow.
