Compare Square Shifts and Shifts Plus
When you sign up for Square Shifts, you can assign your team personal passcodes to clock in and out and use timecards to log hours at your point of sale or on the Square Team App. You also have access to other basic features, such as shift scheduling, timecard reporting, labor cost reporting, and multiple wage tracking per team member.
By signing up for Shifts Plus, you’ll have access to additional advanced features such as:
Time & Attendance: In addition to time tracking, you can enable alerts for break or shift violations, manage your team’s time off, allow your team to suggest edits to their timecards, and send your team shift and break reminders.
Shift Scheduling: Allow your team to set their own availability and swap shifts, and allow timecard notes.
Labor vs. sales reporting: Run reports that track labor cost against sales by each team member.
Advanced tip functionality: Use tip pooling features to equally divide each credit card tip across all tip-eligible team members clocked in at the time of the transaction or require team members to record cash tips when clocking out or switching roles.
Commissions: track flat-rate or tiered commissions for your team.
Permissions: In addition to a set of team permissions, Square Shifts Plus subscribers have access to a second customizable permission set. This custom permission set can be assigned to multiple employees and used to give your team access to complete certain tasks, like approving timecards or managing schedules. The free version of Square Shifts allows access to all of the basic features listed in the table above for free for up to five team members. For teams of six or more, Shifts Plus is available at $4 per team member across all locations. If you are using the free version of Square Shifts and wish to add six or more team members to your account, you’ll need to upgrade your subscription to Shifts Plus beforehand.
Your subscription to Shifts Plus comes with a 30-day free trial. When your 30-day trial ends, your subscription fee will be based on the number of active team members on your account. For example, if at the beginning of your billing cycle you have six active employees and add four more team members throughout the billing cycle, you will be billed for six team members for that month’s bill. Any team members added later in the billing cycle will be included in the following month’s subscription charge. You will not be billed for team members that are not enrolled in any scheduling or time tracking functionality on your account.
Note: The team member cap for Shifts Free does not apply to subscribers of Square Payroll.
Pause or Cancel Your Subscription
You can also pause your subscription or unsubscribe at any time. Similar to a cancellation, each pause is managed per individual subscription. To pause or cancel your Shifts Plus subscription:
From your online Square Dashboard, select Account & Settings
Click Business information > Pricing & Subscriptions.
Under Subscription Pricing, click Manage next to the appropriate subscription.
Click Pause Subscription or Cancel Subscription.
When you pause your subscription, you’ll still have access to paid features for 30 days. Once your 30-day timeframe has expired, you will no longer be able to:
Access labor vs sales or overtime reporting
Access the time clock and timecard reporting
Track commissions or cash tips and pooling the tips across your team
Assign new team members multiple job titles and wages
Block early break clock-ins and allow team members to add notes to their shifts
Note: You can pause for up to three months and unpause at any time. Any existing team members will continue to have the ability to clock in and out and log their hours on timecards. To learn more about pausing subscriptions, visit our Pause Subscription FAQ.
