Use Square Online as a Nonprofit

Is Square Online a good tool for my nonprofit organization?

Yes. Square Online is a great tool for your nonprofit. Your audience can learn more about the great work you do, attend your events, and send you donations right on your website.

Can I use Square Online with other Square products?

Yes. With robust features in Square Online, your website can integrate directly or be used with several other Square products. How can I effectively build a website for my nonprofit organization?

As you navigate the Square Online site editor, you can create pages and navigation, include an Instagram feed, and check out the site preview to make sure your site is looking great before publishing.

Yes. You can set up your donation items with Meta for Business to accept donations on social platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

How can I spread the word about my website?

Here are some suggestions to help you grow your website traffic:

  • Spread the word: Tell your supporters, family, and friends about your site.

  • Update regularly: Keep your website content fresh with Square Online blog posts to give visitors a reason to come back.
  • Use your social networks: Post your site to Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Snapchat, TikTok, LinkedIn, or other social networks whenever you update your content.
  • Promote your site: Add a link to your email signature, and include a link to your site when you post to forums or comment on articles.
  • Start an email newsletter: Use newsletter signup pop-ups on your site as a tool to bring visitors back to your website and continue email promotions with email marketing.

How do I accept donations, sell tickets, or sell memberships?

Will customers who place an order through my Square Online site be added to my Customer Directory?

Yes. Customers who place orders on your site will be added to a list in your Customer Directory.

Can I also accept donations in-person at my events?

Yes, you can download the Square Point of Sale app for both Apple and Android mobile devices.

How can I reach supporters about website updates, events, or donating?

Manage Donations, Events, and Memberships

How do I set up my checkout page?

You can set up the checkout page for your Square Online site from your Square Online Overview page in Settings > Checkout or Shared Settings > Checkout.

How do I set up taxes?

You can set up taxes for your website from your Square Online Overview page in Settings > Sales Taxes or Shared Settings > Sales Taxes. Learn more about setting up taxes in Square Online.

Can I view donations and orders from other Square apps?

Yes. When a customer donates or places an order, you’ll receive an in-app notification, and you can accept and update an order’s progress depending on what you’re selling (think event tickets or memberships).

To manage your Square Online orders, go to the Order Manager in your Square POS or online Square Dashboard by navigating to Orders.

Why didn’t I receive notification when my supporter donated?

Depending on your email provider, notifications will sometimes be filtered to your spam folder. Double check your spam folder and add the following email addresses to your contacts:


If you don’t want all of your online order notifications to go to your Square account email address, you can update your preferences in Square Online to send notifications to as many as three different emails. Why can’t my supporters donate if I’ve marked a donation item as available?

If your items display as Unavailable or don’t appear at all on your Square Online site, there are a few things to consider that could be the cause. Learn more about troubleshooting non-visible items in Square Online.

Will customers receive my customized digital receipts for donations or purchases?

When a supporter donates or places an order through Square Online, they’ll receive a receipt from the Square Online site only. These can be customized from your Square Online Overview page in Communications > Email & Text Alerts.

You can also send supporters a digital receipt with Square at any time from your Square app or Square Transactions page in Dashboard.
