Manage checkout options for your online store
About online checkout options
Enhance buying online by customizing your Square Online site with a tailored shopping and checkout experience. From your online checkout settings, you can manage options such as setting up group orders, choosing customer inputs, adding store policies for shipping and returns, and more.
After customers complete a purchase, the order confirmation page will present order details. This includes information such as their order type and status, relevant shipping or pickup details, purchased items, and your store policies.
Before you begin
You can manage online checkout options in Square Dashboard.
The checkout page is in the same style as the rest of your website, including background colors, text colors, and buttons. The checkout page font is standard across all Square Online sites for legibility purposes. Learn how to choose styles for your Square Online site.
Group ordering is only available with a Square Online Plus or Premium subscription, or a Square Plus or Premium subscription. At this time, group ordering is only available with pickup, local delivery, and closed tabs for QR code ordering. Group ordering is not available with open tabs.

The fulfillment progress meter is only available with a Square Online Plus or Premium subscription, or a Square Plus or Premium subscription. Based on the fulfillment type, a few conditions must be met before the progress meter will show.
Shipping: You can only have one default shipping profile with free shipping, you can’t have a custom shipping profile for any of your items, and the shipping profile must offer free shipping throughout the continental US (the lower 48 US states).
Local delivery: You must have local delivery set up with at least one delivery fee rule that offers free delivery on either large orders or all orders.
Enable group ordering
Group ordering lets multiple people add their individual items to a collective order at the same time, and each participant can use their own device to add to the cart. This works well for groups of people placing an order together.
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.
Click Settings (or Shared Settings) > Checkout.
Toggle on Group Ordering.
The owner of the cart can turn on a group ordering option on your site that will populate a link they can share with anyone they want to join the cart. Additional guests who use the link will go directly to your site to start adding their own items to the collective order. Once the cart is complete, the cart owner can submit the order and pay. The additional guests can also opt to leave the cart and start their own order instead.
Display a fulfillment progress meter
After setting up shipping or local delivery, you can display a progress meter on your customer’s cart that indicates how far away they are from redeeming either free shipping or free delivery on their order.
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.
Click Settings (or Shared Settings) > Checkout.
Toggle on Fulfillment progress meter in cart.
Set up tipping
You can set up tipping for pickup, local delivery, and QR code orders.
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.
Click Settings (or Shared Settings) > Checkout.
Under Tipping, click Edit tipping.
Toggle on Collect tips.
-
Select either Smart tips or Percentage tips only, and set three percentages as default tip options during checkout. From the dropdown menu, you can then choose an optional default tip percentage to have preselected during checkout from the three percentages you entered previously. Customers can always change or remove the amount at checkout.
The Smart tips option shows either percentage or whole amounts depending on the final amount of the order. Orders under $10 enable tipping in whole amounts, and orders over $10 enable tipping in percentages.
The Percentage tips only option shows tipping in percentages for all orders regardless of the final amount.
Toggle on Set a different default tip when a tab is left open and enter a percentage to automatically add a tip to tabs left open. This option is for QR code orders using open tabs only.
Click Save.
For local delivery orders, tipping will only apply to orders fulfilled with in-house delivery. Tipping on orders fulfilled with on-demand delivery is always allowed, and the default tip amount is defined by the on-demand delivery service provider. Customers can always change the amount at checkout.
Set up customer inputs
You can customize the information your customers give you at checkout.
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.
Click Settings (or Shared Settings) > Checkout.
Under "Customer inputs," click Edit customer inputs.

Under "Checkout fields," you can:
Check Allow customer to leave a note to seller to display a text box for customers to leave you a note during checkout. These are helpful for giving you specific details about their orders, such as leaving a special note on a shipped order or leaving out a specific ingredient on a prepared food order.
Check Allow customers to opt-in to receiving marketing emails from you so customers can opt in to marketing updates during checkout. Customers who opt in are automatically included in Square Marketing campaigns. Learn how to create marketing campaigns.
Under "Always collect recipient address for," check Non-physical items to collect a recipient’s address for orders that have digital, donation, membership, event, or service items. The recipient address is automatically collected where necessary for tax, and for all shipping and local delivery orders.
Under "Always collect buyer address for," check applicable options out of Local delivery, QR code ordering, Pickup, and Shipping orders. You can also collect buyer addresses for orders that have Non-physical items. The buyer address is always collected for gift orders.
