Checkout Options with Square Online

Your Square Online checkout page includes several options to enhance the shopping experience for your customers.

From the Square Online Overview page, go to Settings > Checkout to set up these options.

The Checkout setup page is split into four parts:

Accept Online Orders

You can toggle online ordering on or off. When toggled off, items will still be on your site but not available for purchase.

Payment Processors

View details on your connected Square account and enable or disable Apple Pay and Google Pay. You can also optionally connect to a PayPal account. Learn more about accepting payments in this article.

Store Policies

Create shipping and return policies to set clear expectations for your customers and avoid confusion.

  1. Click the Add policies button to create new policies.

  2. Enter your shipping and return policy.

  3. When you’re finished, click Save to return to the setup page and view the policy text.

Customers will now see this information during the checkout process. Click the Edit policies button if you need to make any changes.

Advanced Settings

Change the checkout mode and enable or disable several additional options. Click the Advanced settings button in the top right-hand corner to make changes.
The following options are available:

  • Currency: Displays the currency selected for your online store. Note that this setting cannot be changed while connected to a payment processor.

  • Checkout mode: Switch from Add to cart to Buy now.

    • Add to cart is the default setting and allows users to place any number of items into the shopping cart before checking out.

    • The Buy now option allows customers to skip the basket and go straight to checkout with a single item.

    • Note that you can’t use in-store collection with the Buy Now option.

  • Default fulfilment method: If you offer multiple fulfilment methods, you can set one as the default option. Buyers can always choose a different available fulfilment method when shopping, but the option set as the default option is pre-selected during a buyer’s shopping experience.

  • Checkout options: The settings here affect item pages and the checkout experience on your website. You can enable Apple Pay and Google Pay on your item pages to allow customers to purchase directly from the page. You can also make phone numbers an optional field during checkout, allow customers to leave a note when checking out and add an opt-in tick box for marketing emails. Additionally, you can turn on the option for customers to receive text message alerts about their order status. If you’ve set up Local Delivery, we automatically turn text message alerts on for you.

  • Buyer address settings: Use the tick boxes here to require the buyer’s address for sales of non-physical items like digital downloads, event tickets, memberships or services..
