    Before you begin

    • You can manage online checkout options in Square Dashboard.

    • The checkout page is in the same style as the rest of your website, including background colours, text colours and buttons. The checkout page font is standard across all Square Online sites for legibility purposes. Learn how to choose styles for your Square Online site.

    • Group ordering is only available with a Square Online Plus or Premium subscription. At this time, group ordering is only available with collection, local delivery and closed tabs for QR code ordering. Group ordering is not available with open tabs.

    Enable group ordering

Group ordering lets multiple people add their individual items to a collective order at the same time, and each participant can use their own device to add to the basket. This works well for groups of people placing an order together.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.

    2. Click Settings (or SharedSettings) > Checkout.

    3. Toggle Group Ordering on.

The owner of the basket can turn on a group ordering option on your site that will populate a link they can share with anyone they want to join the basket. Additional guests who use the link will go directly to your site to start adding their own items to the collective order. Once the basket is complete, the basket owner can submit the order and pay. The additional guests can also opt to leave the basket and start their own order instead.

    Set up tipping

You can set up tipping for collection, local delivery and QR code orders.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.

    2. Click Settings (or SharedSettings) > Checkout.

    3. Under Tipping, click Edit tipping.

    4. Toggle Collect tips on.

    5. Select either Smart tips or Percentage tips only, and set three percentages as default tip options during checkout. From the drop-down menu, you can then choose an optional default tip percentage to have preselected during checkout from the three percentages you entered previously. Customers can always change or remove the amount at checkout.

      • The Smart tips option shows either percentage or whole amounts depending on the final amount of the order. Orders under €10 enable tipping in whole amounts, and orders over €10 enable tipping in percentages.

      • The Percentage tips only option shows tipping in percentages for all orders regardless of the final amount.

    6. Toggle Set a different default tip when a tab is left open on and enter a percentage to automatically add a tip to tabs left open. This option is only for QR code orders using open tabs.

    7. Click Save.

    Set up customer inputs

You can customise the information your customers give you at checkout.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.

    2. Click Settings (or SharedSettings) > Checkout.

    3. Under ‘Customer inputs’, click Edit customer inputs.

    4. Under ‘Checkout fields’, you can:

      • Tick Allow customer to leave a note to seller to display a text box for customers to leave you a note during checkout. These are helpful for giving you specific details about their orders, such as leaving a special note on a delivery order or leaving out a specific ingredient on a prepared food order.

      • Tick Allow customers to opt in to receiving marketing emails from you so customers can opt in to marketing updates during checkout. Customers who opt in are automatically included in Square Marketing campaigns. Learn how to create marketing campaigns`.

    5. Under ‘Always collect recipient address for’, tick Non-physical items to collect a recipient’s address for orders that have digital, donation, membership, event or service items. The recipient address is automatically collected where necessary for VAT, and for all delivery and local delivery orders.

    6. Under ‘Always collect buyer address for’, tick applicable options out of Local delivery, QR code ordering, Collection and Delivery orders. You can also collect buyer addresses for orders that have Non-physical items. The buyer address is always collected for gift orders.

    7. Click Save.

    Create store policies

You can create delivery and return policies to set clear expectations for your customers. They will see this information during checkout.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.

    2. Click Settings (or SharedSettings) > Checkout.

    3. Under ‘Store policies’, click Edit store policies.

    4. Enter your Delivery policy and Return policy information. Use the optional guiding questions to help you create each policy.

    Manage advanced settings

You can change the checkout mode and update other advanced options for your site.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Websites.

    2. Click Settings (or SharedSettings) > Checkout.

    3. Under ‘Advanced settings’, click Edit advanced settings.

    4. Under ‘Checkout mode’, choose between Add to basket and Buy now.

      1. Add to basket allows customers to place any number of items into a shopping basket before checking out.

      2. Buy now allows customers to skip the basket and and go straight to checkout with a single item. This option can’t be used with collection orders.

    5. Choose a default fulfilment method selected at checkout between Delivery, Collection and Local delivery. Buyers can always choose a different available fulfilment method when shopping, but the option set as the default option is pre-selected during a buyer’s shopping experience.
