Get Started with Square Online

With Square Online, you can create a professional website to showcase your business online, sell your items, share blog-style Stories, and accept payments with Square. With our easy-to-use website builder, spend less time setting up Square Online, and more time focusing on what matters most: your business.

To sell individual items without setting up an entire ecommerce website with Square Online, consider Square Online Checkout links. Checkout links allow you to sell items through email, social media, or your blog.

Get Started

If you’ve already signed up for Square, you can get started with Square Online right from your online Square Dashboard by following these steps:

  1. In your online Square Dashboard, go to Online.

  2. Select Get Started.

  3. Choose to either set up a single online ordering page or a multi-page ecommerce website.

  4. Choose your business type (i.e. what are you selling?), select your preferred order fulfilment method(s) (e.g. delivery, collection, etc.) and set up other features based on your business needs.

Square Online is a robust platform that covers your website, the items you sell online, online order fulfilment and much more. You can even purchase a new domain name from Square and set up an email address based on that domain.

Square Online Pricing and Fees

Building a website via Square Online is a free service. You can sell unlimited products online, and fulfil your orders electronically – all without a subscription fee. You can even host your site with a free Square subdomain (e.g. "mybusiness.square.site").

You'll only pay the transaction fee for orders placed on your website, or for any optional upgrades or services. Learn more below.

Pricing

There are only charges if you want to purchase your own custom domain name, email address or an enhanced service plan. Otherwise, basic service is, and always will be, 100% free and feature-packed. If you are prompted to pay, it is either because you tried registering a new domain name, purchasing an email address or using a feature that is part of one of the paid service plans. All site upgrades, custom domains and email addresses are optional.

Transaction fees

You pay only the transaction fee on the orders you receive. When a customer places an order online, the fee is 1.4% + €0.25 (+ VAT) per transaction for European cards, and 2.9% + €0.25 (+ VAT) per transaction for non-European cards for most Square Online hosting plans. You can reduce that fee to 1.4% + €0.15 (+ VAT) per transaction for European cards, and 2.9% + €0.15 (+ VAT) per transaction for non-European cards by upgrading your site to the Premium Plan.

Sell Items, Manage Orders and Accept Payments Online

When you complete initial setup, you can start setting up your website to begin selling online, managing online orders, accepting payments and sharing your website with others. Sync items between Square Item Library and Square Online

When you first set up Square Online, products from your Square Item Library will sync over to your Square Online Overview page. After the initial setup, syncing will continue automatically in the background.

Create items in Square Online

Items synced to Square Online from your Square Item Library can be changed to 7 different item types, so feel free to choose an item type that fits your purpose. We help you by providing specific fields and layouts perfectly suited for each item type.

Set up fulfilment methods

Depending on your item types in Square Online, you can set up different fulfilment methods for different item types. Learn more about each fulfilment method below.

Note: Fulfilment type for all items in Square Online will default to delivery unless otherwise changed in settings.

Manage your online orders

You can manage orders from both your online Square Dashboard and the Square POS app. You can also manage online orders from your Square Online Overview page.

Collect and track your payments

You can set up your website to collect payments online with several options and settings. Learn more about accepting payments on Square Online and about your checkout options.

Once a customer places an order from your website, Square automatically collects payment before you mark the order as complete. Your customers will receive an email confirmation with their Square Online receipt once they’ve finished the payment flow. Payments processed with Square Online will appear in the transaction history in your online Square Dashboard. The payment history in your Dashboard offers an itemised breakdown of stock sold for both in-store and online sales. Learn more about viewing your Square payment history.

If you cancel an item or order, your customer will automatically be refunded. Cancelled orders will reflect as a custom amount refund and won’t update your inventory levels for the included items. Learn more about how to process refunds with Square.

Review your reporting

You can see reports and statistics to have an in-depth look at your website and commerce statistics. You can also view and compare your traffic and sales performance over a time period of your choice. Learn more about Square Online reports.

Manage Your Square Online Subscriptions and Services

If you sign up for one of the paid-tier versions of Square Online, or purchase a domain or email address, you can manage your subscriptions and services for Square Online directly from the Account settings area of your Square Online Overview page.

Note: To manage your account settings for your primary Square account, go back to your Account & Settings page in Dashboard. The Account settings area of your Square Online Overview page is for Square Online only, and does not affect your main Square account or other Square products.

Square Online Domains

A domain, often known as a URL or site address, is what helps users find your website while browsing the internet. If you think of your website as a house, then a domain is the house's address. Once you have a domain, there are several ways to get your domain associated with your website. We even offer a free option.

Square Online Email Addresses

Square partners with Google to provide a complete email solution for domain names known as Google Workspace. When you have a domain name associated with your website, you can create an email address right from your Square Online Overview page based on that domain.

Use Square Online with an Existing Website

Many sellers who learn about Square Online may have a site already built with a different website host (e.g. GoDaddy, WiX, Google, etc.), but may not necessarily have a simple way to display the products they sell on their primary website. With our robust tools, you can create a simple page to display your products and link to it within your existing primary website.

Square Gift Cards

Using Square Gift Cards with Square Online lets your customers redeem gift cards when shopping on your website or in person. Learn more about Square Gift Cards overall, or specifically about Square eGift Cards.

To enable gift cards and add them to your Square Online site:

  1. In your Square Gift Cards Overview page, go to eGift Cards > Configure.
  2. Toggle on Sell eGift Cards Online and select Save.
  3. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Items > Gift Cards or Shared Settings > Gift Cards.
  4. Tick the box to Add link to gift card purchase page to site navigation.
  5. Publish your site from the Square Online site editor to see the changes live.

Customers can then purchase gift cards through a standalone page at the URL provided by Square. A link to this page will be automatically added to your site’s navigation to make it easier for customers to purchase gift cards.

Square Invoices

If you already use Square Invoices and Square Online, you can use a contact form on a Square Online website to allow your buyers to contact you and request custom quotes for the services they would pay for with your invoices.

To add a contact form for custom quotes to your Square Online site:

  1. In your Square Online site editor, open the page you want to add a contact form to.
  2. Select +Add > Section, and select Forms. Choose the template for custom quotes.
  3. To add more fields to the form, select the form in the editor and select +Add a question in the menu.
  4. Adjust other aspects of the form using the menu and Publish the site to see the changes live.

Note: Data submitted via the contact form is not secure. Please do not request or collect any sensitive personal information with contact forms.

Square Online Checkout links

Square Online does not have a native subscription feature for items on your website, but you can use Square Online Checkout links to create a subscription item for a service or donation, and then add it to your website with a few available methods.

Note: Subscriptions with Square Online Checkout have a processing fee of 2.5% + VAT per transaction. Customers will be automatically billed on the date of their purchase.

To set up subscription payments on Square Online with Square Online Checkout links:

  1. In your online Square Dashboard, go to Online Checkout.
  2. Select Create checkout link.
  3. Choose the type of link you want to create. The Collect a payment option is best for services, and the Accept a donation option is best for collecting recurring donations. These are the only options that allow you to create a subscription. Select Continue when you’ve made your choice.
  4. Enter your link’s information like name and description, select Advanced settings for additional options for each link type, and choose a payment frequency for subscriptions (e.g. weekly, monthly, etc.).
  5. When finished, select Create link.
  6. Add the new checkout link to your website in the Square Online site editor.

You can add the checkout link to Square Online by either creating a link on your site (copy and save the checkout link’s URL by selecting Copy link), or embedding the link onto your site (copy and save the embed code by selecting Copy under ‘Website button code’). Both of these options can be done in the Square Online site editor.

Note: Remember that you can enable Square Online Checkout links to allow your customers to purchase from an item checkout page without creating a full, eCommerce website with Square Online. Learn more about Square Online Checkout links.
