Use Square Online with an existing website
About using existing third-party sites with Square Online
Many sellers who learn about Square Online may have a site already built with a different website host (such as GoDaddy, WiX, Google, etc), but may not necessarily have a simple way to display the products they sell on their primary website. This means sellers often utilise workarounds that might be functional but not exactly user-friendly.
With Square Online, you can build an ordering page where your customers can shop your entire catalogue of products. Once built, you can then add a link to your Square Online ordering page to your primary website’s navigation menu.
Before you begin
Sign up for a Square account and create your product catalogue in Square Item Library. To learn more, take a look at how to Create and manage items from Square Dashboard.
Set up your existing site with Square Online
To start building an ordering page, select Single ordering page when you first sign up for Square Online, or follow these steps:
- from your online Square Dashboard, go to Online > Online to open the Square Online Overview page.
- Select Edit site to open the Square Online site editor.
- In the site editor, select the Page drop-down menu to see your pages.
- Under Shop All or Order Online, select ••• > Make this my homepage.
- Under Shop All or Order Online, select ••• > Switch template if necessary. Your options for switching your ordering page template are Shop All (best for selling Physical items for retail), and Order Online (best for selling Prepared food and beverage items for restaurants). Review your options and select Switch as necessary.
- Delete all other pages by selecting ••• > Delete page.
- Customise your ordering page by selecting Site design.
Once your Square Online site is set up, you’ll need to publish it to a domain.
You can use a free Square subdomain that never expires (such as ‘mybusiness.square.site’), or you can use a custom subdomain (such as ‘store.mybusiness.com’ or ‘order.myrestaurant.com’). Additionally, you can connect an entirely different third-party domain to your site or purchase a new one directly from Square.
