I am Graham, the owner of the Turkish Deli here in London. I've been in the market over 11 years, since 2006.
We started our business as a bit of a hobby. My wife's family are very large olive growers in Northern Turkey and decided maybe we could try and sell the olives in the UK, and that's how the business started. As simple as that. The whole basis of my business is Providence. All the goods coming through my wife's family. We produce our own Turkish delight in Turkey, and some of the products we have to make here because the fresh products such as baklava, Turkish coffee, we roast our own grind, our own, but our core business is olives of which our wife's family grow, cure, and we sell.
When we weren't taking cards, we had to turn customers away, even for small transactions like Turkish coffee, and now we take cards to Square and there's no issue. Ninety-percent of my transactions are actually contactless. I've never had Square fail since I took the device on, unlike my previous devices.
I've noticed people carry cash far less now than they used to. If you don't take cards, you're going to lose a customer.
