Delroy James: I am Delroy James, owner of Eastway Electrical Contractors. February 14th, 1998. That's when the business was started. After working for Council for about 17 years, my son Omari, joined the business in 2016. Things weren't going too well to be honest, and then he decided to come in and help me, and since he's come in, it's just revamped the business completely.
Omari: A lot of my day-to-day work is using the Square payments system to send invoices to customers or take payments over the phone.
Delroy: For years, I've been trying to get a card payment system in, so when he came up with this, I was a bit skeptical.
Omari: Taking card payments is critical for tradesmen nowadays. Delroy: The customers that we go to, they're ready to pay with their card. They don't want to go out and get cash. Omari: They really like having the convenience of being able to pay with their card and the additional security of chip and pin.
Delroy: We don't spend time chasing invoices because it's all instant. We get paid on the job on the day or beforehand, so it really helps us in that respect. It saves us time. It just makes life so much easier and the customers love it. It's one of the best things that's happened to the business.
