Nobody is a stranger to the trend for mobile any more. According to Criteo, 54% of online transactions in Q3 2018 were made on mobile in the UK — placing us behind just Sweden, Norway and Japan.
Keeping your business up to speed with the latest and best payment methods is our business, so we’re excited to introduce the Square In-App Payments SDK enabling:
- Businesses to accept payments from within their mobile apps
- Customers to securely pay for physical goods or services purchased through apps on their mobile devices
What is an SDK?
An SDK (Software Development Kit), also known as a “devkit”, is a ready-made kit of tools, libraries, documents and code samples that enables your developers to build features for specific platforms. SDKs help you provide a user-friendly experience that’s more stable, has smarter features and keeps your app relevant and useful to your customers.
Why use the Square In-App Payments SDK?
Our In-App Payments SDK enables you to build a customisable payment flow within your app that removes friction from the buying experience. Without that friction, fewer errors take place and fewer baskets get abandoned as more customers move smoothly through the checkout. By using one payment platform that links your online and in-person payment solutions with transactions taking place through your app, you start getting a holistic view of your customers’ behaviour too.
Using one platform for all payments reduces work for your developers as well as you. For your developers, it means less time building and maintaining multiple payment integrations. And for you, it simplifies the process of using data in your business decisions by unifying back-office reporting into a single system.
“With in-app mobile payments, we are delivering on the omnichannel payment platform we’ve promised,” said Carl Perry, Developer Lead at Square. “From software to hardware to services, we now offer a complete payments experience all in one cohesive platform. Even better, developers and sellers can manage a single payments provider and view their transactions across in-store, mobile and online all in one place.”
Brushfire, a fast-growing ticketing and registration platform, has been using the SDK in beta. After integrating it into their mobile apps, they saw an increase in conversions of more than 20%.
“The Square In-App Payments SDK was painless and easy to use,” said Jorin Slaybaugh, Technology Lead at Brushfire. “We loved it from a technical standpoint: It allowed us to do something that was literally impossible…before, and we were able to do it easier than ever. That’s all that matters to developers.”
The In-App Payments SDK works with credit and debit cards from all major providers, Apple Pay, Google Pay and payment card information stored on file. And with our other APIs and SDKs, we handle all of the legal and compliance matters, like maintaining PCI compliance, mitigating fraud, managing disputes and safeguarding buyer data — keeping you and your customers safe.
It’s available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Japan for iOS, Android and Flutter.
