I am Lois and I'm one of four co-founders of the Bus Cafe. We are situated in Margate on the beautiful Kent coast. We come to work on even a winter morning and it's beautiful. It's actually food for the soul. The small business senior in Margate we have found has been incredible. We've made friends, people come in, we know what time they're going to come in, and on what day we'll have the kettle on and the slice of cake ready.
We started off with barbecued lunches and then we moved onto our breakfast mounds. Everything is handmade, freshly prepped from being open only two days a week. We are open now seven days a week, which is amazing for us. And it's not even been two years.
Square is not the first payments system we've used. We were on a different one. They didn't offer an open ticket, so we needed a system that was able to do open tickets that we could edit as well. If you move from table one to table five, and Square offered that with no extra charge, which was brilliant for us. When we were still only taking cash, we had a few problems, not being able to offer card payments.
People have contactless payments on their phone. They just tap, it makes it easy for them. It's the way people move around. So we were absolutely delighted when we were able to put a little sticker on the door saying 'We take card.'
