Introducing Square Register: An End-to-End, Integrated Point-of-Sale Built for Larger Sellers

Oct 30, 2017

NEW YORK, October 30, 2017 - Today at the Square Showroom in Nolita, Square unveiled its newest hardware offering, Square Register, a versatile, fully integrated point-of-sale, built in-house to work seamlessly with any business.

Square Register gives sellers a powerful combination of dedicated hardware, embedded point-of-sale software, and Square’s fast and secure payments technology, all built to work together perfectly. With its sleek design, featuring a built-in seller display and a detachable, customizable customer display, Square Register gives any business a modern look without compromising valuable countertop real estate.

“We built Square Register based on years of insight from working with sellers about what they need on their countertop as their business grows,” said Jesse Dorogusker, head of hardware at Square. “This is the first time we’re delivering a product that incorporates everything we’re known for in one place: beautiful hardware, powerful software, and a robust managed payment experience.”

Square Register sets a new standard for point-of-sale maintenance and reliability, including automatic Square-managed software updates; Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Offline Mode for seamless usage; a five-port USB hub so sellers can integrate with peripheral devices; a two-year warranty; and acceptance of all payment types: swipe, dip, or tap. Square’s point-of-sale software gives sellers the ability to manage their store’s operations efficiently with inventory management, open tickets, a dashboard with real-time analytics, employee management, and a cloud-based system that works across many devices.

Square Register is priced to offer larger sellers a fully integrated point-of-sale solution at $999, or with a convenient financing option of $49 per month for 24 months. Sellers can accept all forms of card-present payments with a new, simple transaction rate of 2.5% + 10¢ per transaction.

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream has already been using Square Register in select locations, in addition to popular brick-and-mortar chains and hospitality businesses like Goa Taco, Cafe Grumpy, The Monster Cycle, Best Beverage Catering, and menswear manufacturer and haberdasher, Drake’s.

“We’ve been using Square Register at our Mountain Winery venue in Saratoga and we’re excited to roll it out to many of the other large venues and festivals we serve,” said Ryan Mendez from Best Beverage Catering, a full-service events company. “At events, keeping the lines moving is crucial for both vendors and customers, and Square Register delivers.”

As part of the launch, Square will host an exclusive pop-up with Top Dawg Entertainment at the Square Showroom in New York City, from October 31 to November 5. Powered by Square Register, fans of the popular record label can purchase merch from its “TDE New Classic” capsule collection all week long.
