Keep your account open for free and keep access to:

    • Any tax forms Square has or may issue for your account

    • Your Customer Directory

    • Business tools like Square Email Marketing or team management tools

There is no cost associated with keeping your Square account open. You can create a new Square account for free at any time.

    Before you begin

You can deactivate your Square account from Square Dashboard.

Before you deactivate your account, export any necessary data prior, like your payment history, Item Library, and Customer Directory. We also recommend you download any Forms 1099-K issued to your account. Learn how to manage your Form 1099-K.

Once deactivated, you will not be able to reactivate your existing account. You will need to create a new Square account should you decide to begin using Square again.

If you choose to deactivate your Square account, you will not be able to access any of your payment history or account information, including any 1099-K tax forms, and any team members will be removed from your account. In addition to deactivating your account, you must cancel any active subscriptions linked to your account. Learn how to manage your Square subscriptions.
