Manage Square subscriptions

About Square subscriptions

Square offers subscription services where you are billed monthly or annually for all active paid services (excluding free trials). Currently, Square offers subscriptions for different business types.

Before you begin

You can view, unsubscribe, pause, upgrade/downgrade, or reactivate your subscriptions as needed from Square Dashboard.

Square offers subscriptions for:

  • Different business types, such as Square for Retail and Square for Restaurants. These subscriptions are individually priced.

  • New bundled plans that allow you to run your entire business with one plan. The new Square Free, Square Plus, and Square Premium plans help you simplify and predict costs while unlocking more value. Learn how to switch to the new Square subscription plans.

View your subscriptions

You can check the status of your subscriptions and trials with Square directly, view your bills, and resend fee invoices emails from your Square Dashboard.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing & subscriptions.

  2. Under Subscriptions, you can view individual subscription details, such as the remaining days in a trial or the cost of your plan. 

  3. Select Domains to view your domain subscriptions.

To view your previous bills and all of your monthly statements:

  1. Under Bills, select a date to view the bill for that service. Select View All Individual Bills to view bills for all services and dates.

  2. Under Monthly Summaries, select a date to view the summary for that service. Select View All Monthly Summaries to view summaries for all services and dates.

To send fee invoice emails or download the PDF form:

  1. Under Monthly Summaries, find the invoice you want to send.

  2. Select the three dots and choose Resend Invoice.

Update your subscription payment method

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing & subscriptions.

  2. Select Update payment method at the top of the page.

  3. Select Bank Account or Credit Card and enter your payment information.

    • If you have an existing bank account linked, it will appear as an option for paying for your subscriptions.

    • If you would like to add a new bank account, you can do so from the Bank accounts page on Square Dashboard.

  4. Click Confirm to save your changes.

Pause a subscription 

You can temporarily pause some subscriptions for up to three months. Pausing temporarily removes the paid features at the end of the current billing period. Your subscription automatically resumes after the pause ends.

With Square Payroll you can pause your subscription for up to 9 months. While you will not be charged during a pause, your account will automatically resume when you send a pay run or once the 9-month period ends. Subscription fees do not apply if your account is set up for paying only 1099 contractors. However, if your account is set up for W-2 payroll and you are now paying just 1099 contractors, contact Square support to update the status of your Square Payroll subscription. Square Payroll will continue to file taxes on your behalf while your account is paused. Employees should not be paid outside of Square Payroll during this time.

To pause your subscription:

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing & subscriptions.

  2. Under Subscription Pricing, click Manage next to the subscription you want to pause.

  3. Select Pause Subscription.

Unsubscribe or change your subscription tier

You can unsubscribe from subscription services or change your plan tier at any time on your Square Dashboard.

You can close your Square Payroll account at any time, but closing your Square Payroll account is irreversible. Once your Square Payroll account is closed, you cannot pay employees or contractors with this account again.

Unsubscribe from a subscription

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing and subscriptions.
  2. Scroll down to the subscription that you want to unsubscribe from.
  3. Click Manage to view subscription tiers (if available) or click Unsubscribe.
  4. Select Unsubscribe to cancel.

Change your subscription tier

You may also have the option to downgrade your subscription to a lower tier or upgrade to a higher tier.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing and subscriptions
  2. Click Change plan or Manage and select your new tier.
  3. Review the product subscription information before changing your paid service.

When downgrading a plan, the changes will be applied at the beginning of your next billing cycle. You will have access to all features of your current subscription, including support, until the downgrade takes effect. Once the new billing cycle starts, your access to features and support specific to your previous tier will no longer be available.

When upgrading a plan, you can use a free trial for your new plan tier. If you already used the free trial, you’ll be charged a prorated amount for the rest of the month to cover the difference in cost between the tiers.

Reactivate a subscription

You can reactivate previously ended subscriptions. Reactivating may add on paid features to your subscription. Review the product subscription information before changing your paid service.

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing & subscriptions.

  2. Under Subscription Pricing, select Manage next to the appropriate subscription.

  3. Select Reactivate Subscription.
