Changing the Website Footer in Square Online Store

The footer section at the bottom of your website is displayed on every page, so it’s a great way to call attention to important information or links. By default, the footer also includes a branded banner to show visitors where you built your website. You can upgrade your site to remove this branding from the footer.

To customize your footer, click on the Footer button located on the left hand side of the site editor, or click directly inside the footer.

Changes you make here will apply to the footer on all pages on your website. You can edit these parts of the footer:

  • Content: The items displayed inside the footer, such as your logo and social media links.
  • Layout: The arrangement and positioning of the content in the footer.
  • Style: The background color or image for the footer section.

You can change the overall look of the footer with a new layout.

Click Layout on the upper left to view the available styles, then click on a thumbnail to see how it looks. You can change the layout any time you want, so feel free to try out different looks. Some layouts include extra features, like adding the navigation menu to the footer.

There are several different types of content that you can customize and include in the footer. You can use the toggle switches to turn off any content that you don’t want in the footer.

Add a Logo

Click Logo to view the options for your site title. You can switch from using a logo image to text via the menu at the top, and you can replace, edit or delete the current image using the buttons below the image preview. To adjust the display size of the logo, use the slider under the image options. You can also adjust the zoom level using the Edit button, but keep in mind that increasing the zoom too much can cause pixelation and lower image quality.

You can use a logo that’s different from the one in the header of your website if you want. Use the “Replace” button to choose a separate logo image for the footer. You can also link the footer logo to an external URL using the link button.

Add an Email Sign Up Form

Click Subscription to edit the settings for the email signup form.

You can customize the text shown on the button and text field, change the button style, give the form an internal name, and add a confirmation message that customers will see after submitting.

Add Social Media Icons

Click Social media icons to view the options.

Use the Manage icons link to choose which social network icons to display and link them to your profile. Note that if you don’t add your own usernames, these will not display on your website. You can also choose a color scheme. Use the Social media colors if you want the icons to use their own brand colors, or pick one of the other color schemes to match them to your website colors.

Edit External Links

Next, click on External links. By default, this displays copyright information, but you can change this text to anything you want.

To edit the text, click inside the highlighted area in the footer and select the text you want to change. Use the options on the left to format the text with different styles, change the font, size, and color, or add a link.

Finally, you can edit the background for the footer.

Under Section style, click the menu and choose from the default color, a custom color, or an image. The custom color option allows you to choose a different background color for the footer. Click the color swatch menu to change the color and select one of the swatches to match the colors for your website. The image option allows you to upload a photo to use as the footer background. You can also use the free image search to find a photo for the background. The “Improve readability” option applies a filter to the image to make text easier to read against the background. You can toggle this off via the checkbox.

Click Done on the upper left when you’re finished editing, then publish your website to make the changes visible to anyone browsing your site.
