Set up and manage abandoned cart emails for your Square Online site

    Customers may not finish purchasing the items they’ve placed in their carts for any number of reasons, leading to an abandoned cart. With the abandoned cart automation in Square Marketing, you can send reminder emails to those customers about their items, prompting them to complete their purchases on your Square Online site.

    Before you begin

    • You can set up and manage abandoned cart emails from your Square Dashboard.

    • Once you enable abandoned cart emails, notifications will be sent to customers when a cart is abandoned moving forward. Any carts that were abandoned prior to enabling this feature will not trigger an email.

    • If items in your customer’s cart sell out by the time they return to their cart, the cart will not display those items but will display a message stating that something in the cart has changed. This also applies if the price of an item in their cart changes.

    • Abandoned cart emails include:

      • A button that navigates back to their cart in your online store.

      • Item information including image, quantity and description.

      • Your business name and contact information in the email footer.

    Customize and activate an abandoned cart email

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Automations.

    2. Click Recover an Abandoned Cart > Begin > Email > Next.

    3. Design your abandoned cart email as needed and click Review.

    4. Enter a name for your automation, choose a Wait time before your abandoned cart email is sent to the customer, and optionally toggle on a Reminder email if the original email isn’t opened after a certain time.

    5. Click Activate.

    Emails will be sent to customers who abandon their cart from the activation point onward. Any carts abandoned prior to enabling this feature will not trigger an email.

    Disable abandoned cart emails

    You can disable abandoned cart emails at any time.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Automations.

    2. Under your abandoned cart email automation, click ••• > Cancel > Deactivate campaign.

    If there are emails queued up to be sent, disabling abandoned cart emails will cancel them.
