Set up and manage abandoned basket emails for your Square Online site

    Customers may not finish purchasing the items they’ve placed in their baskets for any number of reasons, leading to an abandoned basket. With the abandoned basket automation in Square Marketing, you can send reminder emails to those customers about their items, prompting them to complete their purchases on your Square Online site.

    Before you start

    • You can set up and manage abandoned basket emails from your Square Dashboard.

    • Once you enable abandoned basket emails, notifications will be sent to customers when a basket is abandoned moving forward. Any baskets that were abandoned prior to enabling this feature will not trigger an email.

    • If items in your customer’s basket sell out by the time they return to their basket, the basket will not display those items but will display a message stating that something in the basket has changed. This also applies if the price of an item in their basket changes.

    • Abandoned basket emails include:

      • A button that navigates back to their basket in your online store.

      • Item information including image, quantity and description.

      • Your business name and contact information in the email footer.

    Customise and activate an abandoned basket email

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Automations.

    2. Click Recover an Abandoned Basket > Begin > Email > Next.

    3. Design your abandoned basket email as needed and click Review.

    4. Enter a name for your automation, choose a Waiting time before your abandoned basket email is sent to the customer, and optionally toggle on a Reminder email if the original email isn’t opened after a certain time.

    5. Click Activate.

    Emails will be sent to customers who abandon their basket from the activation point onwards. Any baskets abandoned prior to enabling this feature will not trigger an email.

    Disable abandoned basket emails

    You can disable abandoned basket emails at any time.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Automations.

    2. Under your abandoned basket email automation, click ••• > Cancel > Deactivate campaign.

    If there are emails queued up to be sent, disabling abandoned basket emails will cancel them.
