Customise Store Emails for Square Online

When your customers make a purchase through Square Online, they’ll automatically receive email notifications to the email address they entered during checkout. You can edit these emails and their content in your Square Online Overview page.

Note: Receipts emailed to customers for sales made at your physical locations will continue to be customised in your Account & Settings page under Business information > Receipt. Learn more about customising your receipts and invoices for your physical locations.

Add a Sender Profile


To start sending store emails from Square Online to your customers, start by adding a sender profile. To add a sender profile:

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Communications > Email & Text Alerts.

  2. Select Add Profile to begin creating a Sender Profile.

  3. Select Save when finished. This will trigger an email that'll be sent to the email address in your sender profile.

  4. Select the button in your confirmation email to complete the sender profile verification.

The sender profile lets your customers know who you are as a business and is the information that displays in the email's footer (including your business name, email address and physical address).

Edit and Customise Your Emails

Note: Editing all emails is free, but some will require an upgrade on your Square Online site to be sent.


You can customise store emails for Square Online. You can also set up a theme for your emails based on your branding and customise specific emails for order confirmations, refunds, item reviews and more. To do so:

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Communications > Email & Text Alerts.

  2. In the Email Previews section under the email type in the list, select "..." > Edit Email.

The Square Online emails you can edit include:

Store email types

  • Abandoned Cart: This is sent to encourage customers to complete their purchases when they add items to the cart but don’t complete the checkout process. Learn more about abandoned cart emails.
  • Gift Card Sent: This is sent to confirm that an eGift Card was sent. Learn more about gift cards for Square Online.
  • Order Confirmation: This is sent after a customer completes a purchase. This email contains details about the transaction and what items are included in the order.
  • Order Prepared: This is sent to confirm an order has been prepared and is ready for pickup in the Orders tab.
  • Items Dispatched: This is sent when you mark an order as dispatched in the Orders tab.
  • Items Refunded: This is sent when you refund order items in the Orders tab.
  • Items Cancelled: This is sent when you cancel an order or part of an order in the Orders tab.
  • Item Reviews: This is sent after a set period of time for your customer to leave a review about their purchase. Learn more about customer reviews for Square Online items.

Navigate the Store Email Editor


The store email editor is separate from the site editor for your Square Online site. This editor has a drag-and-drop interface that allows you to select and drag features of your choice and drop them onto different areas of your email as needed.

Note: Not all elements or text of an email can be edited.

Consider adding images, social icons or a custom header or footer message with additional information about your business. When finished, select Save and Close.
