Take orders at point of sale with Square for Restaurants

Who is this article for?
This article is for quick service or full service restaurants taking orders with countertop points of sale. You need the Square for Restaurants Free, Plus, or Premium plan to take orders at the counter with Square for Restaurants.

Before you begin

If at all possible, train your staff on countertop points of sale after business hours. If you must train during the workday, try to avoid peak busy hours so your customers will experience few delays.

You can take this two-minute guided POS tour to walk through the Square Restaurants POS app.

Before taking orders at the counter, you need to be in front of a Square for Restaurants point of sale. Square for Restaurants is available and compatible with both iPad and Square Register. Fast food restaurants may prefer Square Register since it has a built-in customer-facing display; full-service restaurants may prefer iPad with Square Stand (or Stand Mount) for their server stations. Check out the hardware and kits available on Square Shop.
