Adjust Square Kiosk checkout and order notification settings

    Customers can place orders at your Square Kiosk from the selection of items you add to your kiosk menu. You can customise the self-serve ordering experience by adjusting your Square Kiosk settings, such as order ready notifications and checkout options like tip options, dining options and gift card acceptance.

    To minimise confusion and order mix-ups during peak hours, you can notify diners when their order is ready using their name, table number or order number.

    Before you begin

    You can adjust your local kiosk checkout and order notification settings from your Square Dashboard. You can also adjust the settings for multiple kiosk devices from Square Kiosk profiles. Learn how to create, assign and edit Square Kiosk profiles.

    Before you can adjust your kiosk checkout and order notification settings, you need to do the following:

    If you are using other Square self-serve ordering features, such as QR code ordering with Square Online, keep in mind that your ordering hours for Square Kiosk and ordering hours with QR codes will remain the same. Learn how to set up and manage QR code ordering for your online store.

    Offline payments are not supported with Square Kiosk hardware running the Square Kiosk app. Learn how to process offline payments.

    Edit your Square Kiosk checkout settings

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Device management > Kiosk.

    2. Select Edit settings under Edit settings and devices.

    3. Click on the kiosk device you want to edit.

    4. Select your preferred checkout settings:

      • Dining options: Allow customers to select a dining option, such as Have here or Takeaway.

      • Payment: Allow customers to use a gift card.

      • Signature and receipt: Turn on/off signature requirement.

      • Tipping: Turn on tipping, set percentage or dollar amount, and select to calculate tip after or before taxes.

    5. Click Save.

    Edit your Square Kiosk order ready notification settings

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Device management > Kiosk.

    2. Select Edit settings under Edit settings and devices.

    3. Click Order ready notification.

    4. To collect diner phone numbers and send notifications when their order is ready, toggle Text message ON. 

    5. Select how you’d like to notify your diners their order is ready:

      • Diner’s name – to prompt diners to enter their names when ordering.

      • Table number – to provide physical table numbers and deliver orders to the table.

      • Order number – to use generated order numbers. To notify your diners by order number, you need to toggle Text message ON.

    6. Click the back arrow to adjust other settings or click Save.

    When customers enter their phone number for text message order ready notifications, the Square Kiosk app will automatically link their loyalty account.
