Square eGift Cards

With Square eGift Cards, you can easily sell digital gift cards online and in-store to customers searching for last minute gifts, or to those who live far away.

Once you set up your free online eGift cards order site, your customers will be able to send eGift cards via email to individuals, multiple people all at once or even to themselves. They can also create a group gift by letting contributors add funds to an eGift card online before it is sent to the recipient.

Customers’ eGift cards can be easily redeemed for in-store purchases, on Square Online, or with select Square partners like Magento.

Square eGift Card Fees

With eGift cards, you pay a 2.9% + 30 cents fee when your customer buys an eGift card from you through your online order page and a gift card load fee of 2.5% of the amount loaded or reloaded. There are no upfront set-up costs for eGift cards, and no cost to create or maintain your eGift card ordering site.

If you sell your eGift cards through the Square app, you pay the processing rate based on our standard card processing rates:

  • Swiped magstripe, inserted chip cards, or contactless (NFC) Payments: 2.6% + 10 cents

  • Manually keyed-in or card on file transactions: 3.5% + 15 cents

  • Afterpay: 6% + 30 cents per card payment with Afterpay

Funds from the eGift card sale are included in your next transfer, and there are no fees when a customer pays using their eGift card.

How Your Customers Order Their eGift Cards

From your eGift Card Order Site

Your customers can order from your custom eGift card order page, where they can choose an eGift card design, amount, delivery date, as well as add a personal message and the recipient’s information. Your customer will also enter their payment information and receive an email confirmation of their order. If you have bulk eGift card ordering turned on, your customers can easily follow these same steps for multiple gift cards.

Once you have configured eGift cards on your account, you can share your unique eGift card order page URL with your customers. To locate your order page, please visit the eGift Cards section in your online Square Dashboard and copy the URL that is below the Sell eGift Cards Online toggle switch.

Make sure you link to your eGift card order page from your business website and social media pages. See more ways to promote your eGift Cards to your customers.

If your customer makes a bulk eGift card purchase, they can send all the eGift cards to one email address or one eGift card to multiple emails. If they send all the eGift cards to the same email address, the recipient will receive separate emails for each gift card to avoid bounced emails. If your customer used a promo code, it will apply to all eGift cards.

Note: The maximum bulk purchase order is 100 eGift cards per transaction. eGift cards purchased in bulk must all have the same monetary amount.

From the Square Point of Sale app

If you are set up to sell Square eGift Cards through your Square Point of Sale app, then you can load and send eGift cards to recipients while you're in-store.

To load and send an eGift card in the Square Point of Sale app:

From the Give and Get Local Directory

Customers can also order eGift cards online through the Give and Get Local Directory. The Give and Get Local Directory is a listing of businesses who offer Square eGift Cards. It allows buyers to browse and purchase eGift cards from local businesses in their area, including your own. If a customer decides to buy an eGift card to your business through the Give and Get Local Directory, they will be directed to your custom eGift card order site to complete their purchase. The Give and Get Local Directory is also featured and promoted by select partners to encourage more customers to support local businesses.

To search for your business or others that offer eGift cards in the Give and Get Local Directory:

  1. On the Give and Get Local Directory, enter in an address or press Use current location.

  2. Apply additional filters, such as business category, if needed.

  3. Select the business you wish to order an eGift card from and continue through the checkout process on that business’ eGift card order site.

Note: Only businesses offering Square eGift Cards will appear in the search. Businesses that only offer physical gift cards in store will not be reflected.

The image, business name and location that represent your business in the Give and Get Local directory are the eGift card design and business name and location that you have associated with your Square account.

To update the appearance of your business name and your location in the Give and Get Local directory, visit the Account & Settings tab from your online Square Dashboard.

To update the eGift card image associated with your business in the Give and Get Local directory:

  1. Go to Payments > Gift Cards > eGift Cards in your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Select Manage Designs to add a design and upload your preferred image.

If your business sells eGift cards through Square and you have been processing payments with us, you should have the option to be included in the Give and Get Local Directory by visiting the eGift cards tab in your online Square Dashboard and toggling on Show a link to my eGift Cards in public directories. Once you toggle this on, your business should appear in the Give and Get Local Directory instantly.

If you wish to exclude your business from this directory but still want to sell eGift Cards via your personal eGift card site, please visit the eGift cards section in your online Square Dashboard and toggle off Show a link to my eGift Cards in public directories. Once you toggle this off, mention of your business will be removed from all directories, including those that belong to our partners, but you will still be able to promote your business and sell eGift cards online through your personal eGift card site using your custom URL.

If you no longer want to offer eGift cards for sale online, please visit your online Square Dashboard and toggle off Sell eGift Cards Online.
