  • About Square Kiosk hardware

Square Kiosk (formerly known as Square Stand Mount) is a versatile iPad-driven point of sale that can be easily attached to a wall, secured to a countertop, or fixed to a VESA-compatible pedestal anywhere in your store. With contactless and chip card readers built in, you can accept EMV card payments, contactless cards, and contactless mobile payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

When Square Kiosk is paired with the Square Kiosk app, it creates a self-serve point of sale solution that empowers customers to place orders and complete the checkout flow.

Square Kiosk hardware can also function as a space-saving point of sale device that can run any Square point of sale app–without the need for the Square Kiosk app subscription. This option is ideal for businesses who operate out of small or narrow spaces and need to mount their point of sale device to a wall.

    Before you begin

Square Kiosk hardware is compatible with the following Square apps:

    • Square Kiosk app

    • Square Point of Sale

    • Square for Restaurants

    • Square Retail

    • Square Appointments

Note: Only the Square Kiosk app supports self-serve interaction for diners.

There are two versions of Square Kiosk hardware. iPad compatibility varies depending on which Square Kiosk version you have.

Square Kiosk has four different installation options to suit your business:

    • Angled wall mount

    • Flat wall mount

    • Countertop mount

    • VESA mount

To create a self-serve kiosk station, you will need Square Kiosk hardware, the Square Kiosk app, a compatible iPad, and a companion Point of Sale device. Take a look at Square Kiosk technical specifications to learn more about what’s in the box, dimensions, connectivity, and more.

Square Kiosk hardware combined with the Square Kiosk app is designed as a customer-facing order station only. It requires a companion Point of Sale device for you to accept orders, print order tickets, and accept cash sales. Only one companion Point of Sale device is needed, regardless if you have multiple Square Kiosks.

Installation instructions for Square Kiosk hardware

    Angled wall mount

The angled wall mount positions the screen at an upward angle toward staff and customers.

    1. Pick a spot on your wall: Hold up Square Kiosk against the wall to find your preferred height. Avoid placing over studs.
    2. Position the angled bracket: Level the bracket on the wall, then mark the position of the screw holes with a pencil.
    3. Drill the holes where you just marked: For drywall installation, use the included drywall drill bit.
    4. Screw the angled bracket into the wall: Insert the wall anchors into the drill holes. Position the angled bracket, then insert the wall screws into the front and screw in, making sure the bracket is level as you fully tighten.
    5. Plug the hub into Square Kiosk: Starting from the bottom of the bracket, thread the hub’s USB-C cable through the pass-through hole and into the connector on the back of Square Kiosk.
    6. Place Square Kiosk into the bracket: Tighten the center mounting screw until you cannot see any of the red sidewall on the screw. Make sure it is secure and does not wiggle.
    7. Plug in Square Kiosk: Plug the power adapter’s USB-C cable into the hub, then plug one end of the power adapter cable into the power adapter and the other into an outlet.
    8. Slide your iPad in and secure it: Dock your iPad to the connector and make sure the security latch clicks. Optional: To further secure your iPad, use a small Phillips screwdriver to attach the security screw to the side of Square Kiosk.

    Flat wall mount

The flat wall mount has a slim, space-saving profile that sits flat against the wall.

    1. Pick a spot on your wall: Hold up Square Kiosk against the wall to find your preferred height. Avoid placing over studs.
    2. Position the flat bracket: Level the bracket on the wall, then mark the position of the screw holes with a pencil.
    3. Drill the holes where you just marked: For drywall installation, use the included drywall drill bit.
    4. Screw the flat bracket into the wall: Insert the wall anchors into the drill holes. Position the flat bracket, then insert the wall screws into the front and screw in, making sure the bracket is level as you fully tighten.
    5. Plug the hub into Square Kiosk: Press the hub’s USB-C cable into the cable channel on the back of Square Kiosk. Check that there is no interference between the cable and the mount screw.

    2. Plug the hub into Square Kiosk: Make sure the hub’s USB-C cable is firmly pushed in.
    3. Place Square Kiosk into the bracket: Tighten the center mounting screw until you cannot see any of the red sidewall on the screw. Make sure it is secure and does not wiggle.
    4. Plug in Square Kiosk: Plug the power adapter’s USB-C cable into the hub, then plug one end of the power adapter cable into the power adapter and the other into an outlet.
    5. Slide your iPad in: Dock your iPad to the connector and make sure the security latch clicks.
    6. Optional: Secure your iPad: Using a small Phillips screwdriver, attach the security screw to the side of Square Kiosk to further secure your iPad.

    VESA mount

The VESA mount uses any 100mm x 100mm VESA mount to attach a standalone pedestal, swing arm, or other setup option.

    1. Plug the hub into Square Kiosk: Decide which side you want the hub’s USB-C cable to exit, then slot it into the cable channel, or if VESA mount allows, run the cable through the VESA mount.

    4. Slide your iPad in and secure it: Dock your iPad to the connector and make sure the security latch clicks.
    5. Optional: Secure your iPad Using a small Phillips screwdriver, attach the security screw to the side of Square Kiosk to further secure your iPad.

Connect accessories to your Square Kiosk

Using Square Kiosk as a self-serve ordering station with Square Kiosk app

When Square Kiosk hardware is running with the Square Kiosk app, it can not directly connect to accessories, such as barcode scanners and receipt printers, through USB, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, or Bluetooth. However, you can print Kiosk order tickets through your companion Point of Sale device(s) that are connected to your kitchen printers. Only one companion Point of Sale device is needed, regardless if you have multiple Square Kiosks.

    Print Kitchen Tickets through Kiosk

To send your Kiosk orders to your kitchen printer through your Point of Sale device:

    1. On your Point of Sale device, navigate to More > Settings > Hardware > Printers.
    2. Select the Printer Profile and toggle Online and Kiosk order tickets ON.

Note: If you are printing by category, ensure that the categories enabled for Square Kiosk are selected in the printer profile as well.

These kitchen tickets will print through the printer set-up via your Point of Sale device, along with any other kitchen ticket created from a Point of Sale order.
