Before you begin
Kitchen names let you customize how your items appear on printed order tickets and kitchen displays. A kitchen name is an internal name for any item, variation, or modifier you can set to the preferences of your business. You can create custom names that are shorter, more detailed, or in the preferred language of your kitchen staff.
Kitchen names only display on your KDS and on printed kitchen tickets and will not show on your point of sale or on your customers’ printed receipts.
To add kitchen names, you will need access to your Square Dashboard. To display your kitchen name on your Square KDS and kitchen tickets, you will need access to your Square Restaurants POS app or Square KDS.
Create a kitchen name
You can create kitchen names in your Dashboard from your Square for Restaurants menus or from your Item Library.
Display kitchen names on tickets
From your point of sale or Square KDS printer settings, you can specify if an order ticket will use the kitchen name for each printer station. Kitchen names always display on Square KDS, and you cannot turn off, edit, or remove kitchen names from your Square KDS.

Tap an existing printer station or Create a Printer Station.
To display kitchen names for in-house orders, tap In Person Orders and toggle on Use this printer for in-person order tickets. To display kitchen names for online orders, tap Online Orders and toggle on Use this printer for online orders.
Toggle on Print Kitchen Names.
Tap Back > Save.
