Manage your debit card

  • About managing your debit card 

    Once you open a Square Checking account and receive your Square Debit Card, you can manage most actions for your debit card from Square Dashboard, the Square POS app, and the Square Dashboard app.

    Before you begin

    • Only Square account holders can lock a debit card.

    • You can't link Square Debit Card in peer-to-peer payment services.

    • If you have multiple Square Debit Cards on your account, only the Square account holder can lock a debit card, receive debit card notifications, or update notification settings. 

    • The ability to reorder a debit card and manage notifications from the Square Dashboard app is not available.

    Change your debit card PIN 

    Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Balance.
    2. Select a location under Locations.
    3. Choose the debit card in question and click Reset PIN.

    Square POS app

    1. Open the Square POS app and tap More > Balance > Checking.
    2. Choose the debit card in question and click Reset PIN.

    1. Open the Square Dashboard app and tap Banking > Cards.
    2. Select your Square Debit Card account.
    3. Tap Reset PIN.
    4. Make your edits and tap Save.

    Additional debit card holders

    Multiple debit cards can be issued per Square account. Additional card holders can update their debit card PIN by following these steps:

    1. Log into your account at balances.squareup.com.
    2. Select the applicable debit card and tap Reset PIN.
    3. Enter a new PIN for the debit card.

    Note: You need to complete two-factor authentication to update your PIN.

    Change your billing address 

    Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Balance.
    2. Select your debit card and click the gear icon.
    3. Click Checking settings > Edit billing address.
    4. Make your updates and click Save.

    Square POS app

    1. Open the Square POS app and tap More > Balance > Checking.
    2. Select Billing address > Edit billing address.
    3. Make your updates and click Save.

    Square Dashboard app

    1. Open the Square Dashboard app and tap Banking.
    2. Select your Square Checking account from Locations.
    3. Tap the gear icon and select Checking settings > Edit billing address.
    4. Make your updates and click Continue.

    Reorder a debit card 

    Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Balance.
    2. Select a location from Locations.
    3. Click the gear icon and select Checking settings > Get help with Checking.
    4. Select I lost my card or My card was stolen
    5. Click Report Lost or Stolen > Deactivate card > Order a New Card.
    6. Add your debit card to your digital wallet so you can use your card while you wait for your physical card to arrive.

    Square POS app

    1. Open the Square POS app and tap More > Balance > Checking.
    2. Tap Get help with Checking.
    3. Next to Status click on the icon.
    4. Select I lost my card or My card was stolen
    5. Tap Deactivate card > Order a New Card.
    6. Add your debit card to your digital wallet so you can use your card while you wait for your physical card to arrive.

    Your new debit card takes 7-10 days to arrive, but funds will continue to accrue in your Square balance. You can manually transfer the funds to your linked bank account at any time.

    Lock your debit card 

    Square POS app

    1. Open the Square POS app and tap More > Balance > Checking.
    2. Select the card in question and toggle on Lock card.

    Square Dashboard app

    1. Open the Square Dashboard app and tap Banking > Cards.
    2. Select the card in question and toggle on Lock card.

    Manage debit card notifications 

    You can update your notification preferences to receive SMS alerts when certain transaction types occur on your account. When potentially high-risk transactions occur on your card, such as international purchases,Card not Present (CNP) transactions, or declined transactions, an SMS notification will be sent to the phone number on file. This message notifies you of the transaction, and provide you with the option to temporarily lock your card and review the payment in question.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Balance.
    2. Select Notifications to update your preferences.

    1. Open the Square POS app and tap More > Balance > Checking.
    2. Select Notifications to update your preferences.
