SEO Settings for Square Online Items and Categories

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) allows you to optimize your website pages for search engine results, but you can also add SEO information to items and categories you’re selling online to help them also rank better. Learn more below.

Note: Changes to SEO settings can take time to show up in search results.

Item SEO

From the Square Online Overview page , go to Items > Site Items. Create a new item or choose an existing item to edit, then scroll down to the SEO section.

There are three fields to edit, and all of them are optional.

  • Permalink: A search engine friendly link for items with lengthy titles. For example, if you’re selling an item called “Organic, Non-GMO Gluten Free Homemade Trail Mix”, you might enter homemade-trail-mix as the permalink.

  • SEO Title: This title is shown in search results for your item. Keep it descriptive but concise.

  • SEO Description: This text is shown along with the title in search results. Keep it descriptive but concise. To use the trail mix as an example, the description is a good place to mention that it’s organic, gluten free and non-GMO.

Select Save when you’re finished with your updates, and follow the same steps for any other items you want to edit. Note that changes to SEO settings can take time to show up in search results.

Category SEO

From the Square Online Overview page , go to Items > Site Categories. Create a new category or choose an existing category to edit, then scroll down to the SEO section.

There are three fields to edit, and all of them are optional.

  • Permalink: A search engine friendly link for categories with lengthy titles. For example, if you’re selling items in a category called “Organic, Non-GMO Gluten Free Homemade Foods”, you might enter homemade-foods as the permalink.

  • SEO Title: This title is shown in search results for your category. Keep it descriptive but concise.

  • SEO Description: This text is shown along with the title in search results. Keep it descriptive but concise. To use the homemade foods as an example, the description is a good place to mention that all items in the category are organic, gluten free and non-GMO.

Select Save when you’re finished with your updates, and follow the same steps for any other categories you want to edit.
