Add and manage authorized representatives

  • About authorized representatives

    Sometimes you may want someone other than the account owner to manage specific tasks or reach out to Square Support. You can grant your team members account access by adding them as an authorized representative.

    An authorized representative is a team member or associate who can: 

    • Contact Square Support for general guidance (no account-specific details)

    • Ask Square Support general questions about Square Loans (excluding offer-specific details)

    • Communicate and take action on a Square Loans offer

    • Discuss account-specific details with Square Support, like transactions, transfers, fees, customers, and subscriptions

    • Ask Square Support to update business information

    Before you begin

    You can make existing team members authorized representatives and manage your authorized representatives from your business settings in Square Dashboard. 

    You can add new team members as authorized representatives from your Square Dashboard or your Square Point of Sale app. You can also make team members authorized representatives when you edit their team member profile. Learn how to add and manage team members.

    Add an authorized representative

    You can add existing team members as authorized representatives from your business settings.

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and Settings > Account & Settings > Business information > Business security.

    2. Select Assign Authorized Representative, and select Select existing team members. If you select Add new team member, follow the steps to add a new team member.

    3. Select an existing team member and select Assign authorized representative.

    Remove an authorized representative

    From Square Dashboard

    You can remove an authorized representative from your Square Dashboard by either directly editing the team member or through your business security settings and from your Square app.

    From a team member profile:

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard, and go to Staff & payroll > Team > Team members.
    2. Click a team member’s name.
    3. Within the Permissions section of their profile, select Edit.
    4. Toggle off Authorized representative.
    5. Click Save.

    From business security settings:

    1. In your Square Dashboard, go to Settings > Account & Settings > Business information > Business security.
    2. Under Authorized representatives, select a team member’s name.
    3. Within the Permissions section of their profile, select Edit.
    4. Toggle off Authorized representative.
    5. Click Save.

    From Square app

    1. Open your Square app, and tap ≡ More > Team.
    2. Tap a team member’s name and tap the edit icon.
    3. Toggle off Authorized representative.
    4. Tap Save.
