How Customers Redeem Their Rewards

Square merchants can send rewards to customers via SMS. Rewards can be redeemed by visiting a merchant’s location.

Enroll in a Square Merchant’s Loyalty Program

There are several ways to enroll in a participating merchant’s Square Loyalty program: during checkout at their business, when completing a Square Invoices transaction, and through an invitation email that is sent if you didn’t enroll after your last eligible purchase. You’ll enroll by entering your phone number and your earned points and rewards will be associated with this phone number, so make sure to always use the same one regardless of how you pay.

Note: You’ll only be given the option to enroll after making a purchase eligible for a star, according to the merchant’s loyalty program rules.

Enroll at the Point of Sale

During checkout, you’ll see a loyalty enrollment screen asking for your phone number to sign up for a business’ loyalty program or to check in to an existing loyalty program. Enter your 10-digit phone number to claim your points. From here, you’ll receive an SMS text message confirmation with a link to Cash App where you can view your loyalty activity, points that you have accrued, current tier, and any available rewards. If you do not have Cash App, you’ll be given the option to download the app on your mobile device or use a business’s loyalty buyer web page to view your rewards.

After your payment has been approved, you’ll be prompted to enter a receipt preference: emailed or SMS digital receipts or no receipt.

Using Cash App is not required to accrue points and redeem rewards. However, by downloading Cash App, you can easily track the points you earn for every business using Square Loyalty from the Activity page.

Enroll Via Email After a Sale

If you visited a participating merchant and didn’t claim your point at checkout, you’ll receive an invitation to enroll in the merchant’s Loyalty program and claim your point after each eligible purchase. To do so:

  1. Look for an email from the merchant regarding their Loyalty program.

  2. Follow the prompt to Claim Your Points.

  3. Enter your 10-digit phone number > tap Claim Your Points.

You’ll see a confirmation and an invite to Check Your Loyalty Status on Cash App, which you can do at any time from this link.

Note: Enrollment invitation emails may take a few hours to reach your inbox after your purchase, and will only be sent if you provided an email address for a digital receipt.

Enroll via a Square Invoice

Square Invoices can be sent for completion via the email address or mobile phone number that is on file for you with the business. Once you receive an invoice, take the following steps to enroll or check in to a business’ Square Loyalty program:

  1. On the Invoice summary page, select Enroll or check in.

  2. On the next screen, provide your phone number.

  3. Select Enroll or check in and proceed through to complete the invoice payment. You will see any available points earned at the top of the page.

  4. Once the invoice payment is complete, select Track your rewards progress to view your rewards progress, account information, and any available points.

Note: Buyers can only accrue points when completing an invoice payment at this time. Buyers are not able to redeem any available rewards through Square Invoices payments, but rewards can be claimed during checkout at a point of sale or through a Square Online site.

View Your Square Loyalty Status

When you enroll in a Square merchant’s loyalty program, you’ll receive a welcome SMS message including a link to your loyalty status in the Activity tab of Cash App. From this tab, you can click on the business to view your progress towards a reward, current tier, earned rewards, linked payments cards, and an overview of your rewards activity with that merchant.

If a business’ loyalty program has opted out of integrating with Cash App, you will be able to view your loyalty status with that business through a loyalty status webpage. To view your loyalty status with a specific Square merchant with a loyalty status page: Access the Square merchant’s Loyalty Status page link.

  1. Enter your phone number > Request Loyalty Code.

  2. Enter the loyalty code received via SMS > Sign In.

  3. In case you are not enrolled in the merchant’s loyalty program, you will be prompted to enroll to start earning Points.

If you no longer have the welcome SMS with the link to your status page, you can resend it to yourself the next time you claim a point. Simply tap the field containing your phone number and the link will be resent via SMS.

Please note: You will need to have a mobile phone number to enroll in a Square seller’s Loyalty program and view your Loyalty status.

Redeem Your Rewards

When you visit a merchant, you can redeem your reward by providing the cashier with your name or 10-digit phone number.

You can also select your reward at checkout if you pay with a debit or credit card linked to your loyalty account, and apply it to your current purchase. Learn how to view which cards are linked to your account.

When you redeem a reward, your card statement may initially show a pending charge for the full transaction amount. When the transaction is finalized, usually 1-2 days later, the charge will reflect the discounted price. You may also receive SMS or Cash App notifications once your loyalty status has been updated with the business.

Note: With loyalty in receipts, you can view how many points you’ve just earned by looking at your digital receipt. You can also click on your Loyalty Status page link on the receipt for more information about the loyalty program, including available rewards, tier status, and historical loyalty activities. However, loyalty points earned only appear on digital receipts and do not appear on printed receipts at this time.

Digital Loyalty Pass

When you use Apple Pay or check in to a seller’s loyalty program you’ll receive a push notification to add a loyalty pass for this business to your phone’s digital wallet. Once you tap the notification, you’ll need to verify your contact information, agree to the terms and conditions, and add the loyalty pass to your digital wallet.

The loyalty pass will reflect the business name, your available point balance, and your membership start date, as well as the account holder name and phone number. Once you add the pass to your wallet, you can tap the seller display screen or contactless card reader with your smartphone for future transactions to automatically check in, accrue points, and redeem any available rewards during checkout.

Note: Adding loyalty passes is only available on iOS devices. Buyer check-in and transactions must occur at Square Register or with Apple Pay to receive a notification to add a pass to a digital wallet. Digital passes can also be claimed through digital receipts and your online loyalty status page.

View Your Expiring Points

You can keep track of any points that are expiring from a specific merchant from Cash App or on your loyalty status page if the business has opted out of the Cash App integration.

To view your expiring points in the current month, click on the link you received via SMS to view your Loyalty activity. You will also be notified 14 days before your points expire at the end of the month.

Unlinking Your Payment Cards

When you enroll in a Square Merchant’s loyalty program, you’ll receive a welcome SMS message that includes a link to your status page and information about your linked payment cards. You can unlink any payment cards from the loyalty status page.
