  • How do I set up Tap to Pay on Android?

    After you download the Square Point of Sale app on your Android phone, check your device settings to see if NFC is on. If it’s not on, turn it on. Then, navigate back to the Square Point of Sale app. In the More menu, visit settings and verify that Tap to Pay on Android is enabled. Once that’s done, you’re ready to accept contactless cards with Tap to Pay on Android.

  • Which payment methods work with Tap to Pay on Android?

    In Canada, Tap to Pay on Android is compatible with contactless credit cards from Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other digital wallets. If your customer does not have a contactless payment method, you can also accept payments with manual card entry, a QR code, or checkout link in the Square Point of Sale app.

    For select sellers, we are currently piloting Tap to Pay on Android using Interac Debit. If you are interested in participating in Tap to Pay on Android including Interac Debit, please reach out to us here. As an alternative, you can accept in-person Interac Debit card payments using Square products like Square Reader and Square Terminal.

  • Can I use Tap to Pay on Android for transactions of any amount?

    Tap to Pay on Android can only be accepted to the tap limit set by the cardholder’s financial institution, which is typically set to $250 CAD. Transactions above the tap limit are not supported with Tap to Pay on Android, and you and your customer will be prompted to use an alternate payment method like manual card entry.

  • Which phones are compatible with Tap to Pay on Android?

    Most Android devices that run on Android 9 or a later OS and have NFC capabilities will be compatible with Tap to Pay on Android. Learn what devices aren’t compatible here.
