Schedule inventory restocks

  • About scheduling automatic restocks

    Automatic inventory restocks allow you to set a specific day and time for the items marked as sold out to automatically restock, or use your business’ end of day to keep your stock counts accurate and up to date.

    Before you begin

    You have two options for scheduling inventory restocks:

    • Schedule an inventory restock from the Square Dashboard on a laptop or desktop computer

    • Schedule an inventory restock from the Square POS apps and devices

    Make sure you’ve created at least one item in your item library before scheduling an inventory restock. Learn more about how to create and edit items with Square.

    You can only schedule restocks for items which have been marked as sold out in your item library. Learn how to set up inventory tracking.

    Schedule inventory restocks

    Effective scheduling of inventory restocks ensures that products are consistently available to meet customer demand while optimizing storage and reducing costs.

    Square Dashboard

    To schedule an inventory restock for an item without variation:

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & Orders > Items > Item Library.
    2. Click on the selected item.
    3. Click Edit variation details, next to the Variations section > click Manage stock.
    4. Toggle off Tracking.
    5. Toggle on Mark as sold out on Point of Sale and Online and toggle on Choose a time to make for sale again.
    6. Choose to keep the restock scheduled for the end of your business day or use the date selector to choose a custom date and time > click Done.
    7. Click Save.

    To schedule an inventory restock for an item with variations:

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & Orders > Items > Item Library.
    2. Click on the selected item.
    3. Click on the name of your variation within the Variations section > click Manage stock.
    4. Toggle off Tracking.
    5. Toggle on Mark as sold out on Point of Sale and Online and toggle on Choose a time to make for sale again.
    6. Use the date selector to choose a custom date and time > click Done.
    7. Click Save.

    Once you schedule an automatic restock time, a calendar icon will appear in the Available to sell column of your Item library.

    Square POS apps and devices

    1. Open the Square app and tap ≡ More.
    2. Tap Items > All items.
    3. Tap on the item you want to schedule an automatic restock.
    4. Tap Manage stock under the Price and inventory section.
    5. Toggle on Label as sold out at this location.
    6. Tap Choose a time to mark for sale again > Specify a time and date.
    7. Choose the date and time.
    8. Tap Done.
    9. Review your changes and tap Done > Save.

    Once you schedule an automatic restock time, a calendar icon will appear under your item name.
