Upload and manage item images
About item images
Product images are a key element of a successful business, especially of an eCommerce website. Adding images also helps improve the checkout experience for your staff and customers. Images are visible on the point of sale when staff are ringing up customers, and when customers browse on your Square Online website.
Before you begin
You have two options for uploading item images:
Manage images from the Square Dashboard on a laptop or desktop computer
Manage images from the Square POS apps and devices
Keep in mind the following requirements and recommendations when uploading images:
Square supports the following file types for item images: JPG, GPEG, PNG, GIF.
Images can be up to 20MB, but we recommend 500KB or less for faster webpage loading speeds.
Images can be up to 2560 x 2560 pixels. We recommend at least 2000 x 2000 pixels with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
Images uploaded to your item catalog will sync across your Square app(s) and devices, and Square Online.
Upload item images
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & orders > Items.
- Click on the selected item from the list or Create item.
- Below the Description field, drag and drop images to that section, click upload to add an image file from your device or click browse image library to choose previously uploaded images.
- If needed, you can add images to variations by clicking the item variation.
- Click Save.
To delete an image, select the image, hover over the Primary image, and click the trash icon over an existing image.
- Open the Square app and tap ≡ More.
- Tap Items > All Items.
- Tap on the selected item from the list or tap Create Item.
- Tap on the square icon with your item’s name.
- Select Choose from library to add an image file from your device or select Take Photo to use your device’s camera.
- Tap Save.
To remove an item, tap the image and tap Remove image.
